is it possible that modchips will become obsolete in a few months time because of the backup launcher, or will nintendo just be able to patch that easily?

Wouldn't say easily... but it's possible for Nintendo to patch it.

Modchips aren't obsolete... they still have the ability to play Gamecube games (BUL can't), higher compatibility with Wii games, and you don't have to worry as much about updates like you do with the backup launcher.

yeah, so modchips have the advantage of supporting gc backups and not having to worry about updates. i think the wii compatibility will go up a lot more in coming versions.

thanks, i read that. so what would you recommend since i don't have a serial port on my computer. i'm thinking of going with a yowii, since it has everything i need and has yaosm 3.2. i'm just afraind that i may need to update it sometime in the future and that i won't be able to....

i've pretty much given upon wiikey after i did more research into complaints that people had with it.

You have to program yowii aswell and you have to solder it. If you are not unconfortable with soldering you can just get a pregrommad yaosm from eurasia.nu

well I wrote it in my FAQ if you'll have to update you will to 99% be able to do it through DVD.

i think i'll go with presoldered (with wiiclip) yowii, yaosm i can't program and there are no solderless preprogrammed ones available.

Though you have to ask yourself why he doesn't just flash Free-clips. Maybe I should mail him.

yes, but doesn't yaosm need the programmer to update? i read that it has no dvd upgrade for the latest version... that's the main reason that i'm probably going with wiikey now...

If you get the Free clip you'll get a programmer with it. You may have to take the clip out to update it but its better than the WiiKey which will get no updates at all.

I second YAOSM.

Wiikey simply has a team of bad managers. Reminds me of Wall Street executives who puts their company IPO and profits for their own pocket as they forget about their shareholders.

yeah, techsick was the only place i could find them too. fortunately, they ship internationally. they seem to use the same clip as the one used for wiikey. thanks for all your help.

edit: it turns out my friend also wants to get a modchip, his drive seems to be a d2c2. he's very bad with pretty much everything to with technology, and he wants me to get the same chip as him. i'm not sure if i'm going to agree, but it seems to me that the d2sun will meet both our requirements. it is $7 more than yowii, but i can manage that. it also seems to have support.

my questions are, is d2sun good, or is it like the wiikey? is it the same team (they have similar site designs)?
