I've been out of the 3DS loop for around 7 years now, and I recently brought my N3DS back to life by finally ordering a replacement battery for it. In these 7 years, though, I have no idea what the standards are anymore. I've tried to go through, and figure this out myself, but thought I'd also ask the community to see if I missed anything.
  • Luma/GM9/B9S/Firm have all been updated to the latest releases
  • Updated/replaced homebrew apps (FBI, Anemone, freeShop, Multi-Updater, 3DShell, BootNTR, Checkpoint, etc.)
  • Installed Pretendo, ModMoon, and Moonlight
I know that's a pretty short list, but I can't really find that much has changed since since I last powered this thing on. It's just been a good deal of time since I did do that, and things have a habit of changing over nearly a decade's worth of time.

If something big changed, it wouldn't be hard to figure out.

Didn't Freeshop start stop working more than seven years ago? Of course, we're not supposed to talk about freeshop.

Not sure what Multi-Updater is either; Universal Updater seems to be the only such program anyone uses anymore.

Well I know that. I'm more so asking about tools and utilities.

Yup, that's one of the ones that I replaced with the current alternative that starts with an "h". That one we can't talk about, but we can talk about freeShop. It was originally released here, and then forked by the community after the original dev went to prison, but the loophole it used eventually got closed up by Nintendo. The alternative that exists now just downloads everything from a CDN owned and operated by the devs, and it's very obvious it's just for piracy. freeShop had deniable plausibility, even though it was definitely primarily used for piracy.

It's what Universal Updater replaced. Multi-Updater was very rudimentary, text-only, and didn't really let you choose what to update. It'd just check relevant Git release pages, and if something new was available, it'd automatically pull and install it.

If you're planning on playing GBA games, I'd highly recommend setting up openAGBfirm. I think that doing VC injections was the older, preferred way for playing GBA games for a long time, but now openAGBfirm is the best way to play them

Ah, cool. That I didn't know about, and I've got a folder full of injections. I'll definitely look into this.
