Gaming Battlefield 2 Help

I can't seem to get Battlefield 2 to work on my Windows 7 laptop. Every time I try to start it up, the screen goes black like it is booting but then it goes back to desktop. I installed the game, installed the 1.41 then the 1.5 patch and it still crashes. I followed this tutorial (at the bottom) down to the letter and it still won't run. I've googled it and I can't seem to come up with an answer.
