ROM Hack backing up DS games without a slot2 device?

I was wondering if this would work, as I would like to move my official cartridge over to my R4. I just need a way to do it without a slot-2 device (no EZ 3-in-1 here).

Also, it doesn't hurt the official cartridge doing this, does it?

Hope it works for you. You can backup your game saves from your commercial carts as well.
