Hi my switch completely died
I have auto rcm installed

It no longer gets registered to be able to send a payload in the windows app

I notice when i connect it to the pc windows complains about the port needing more power etc so it looks like the device is turning on.

I have placed the switch on the official dock for a few hours but still did not work

Anyone got any suggestions here and is it a good idea when it does work to turn auto rcm off?

Leave it in the dock and go do something else today. Charge time…it’s the only way. When you get back, hold the power button down for 12 solid seconds to reset everything and then tap it again to power on and you should be good to go.

When you have autoRCM installed, and you turn on your console, it will immediately go into RCM. In that state, the battery drains fast. You're supposed to inject a payload quickly afterwards, or else the battery will keep depleting until completely empty. This is probably what happened to you. I suggest plugging your Switch directly into the wall charger (not through the dock) and let it charge for a couple hours.

Ok thanks all

Is it worth me turning rcm off?
Or keeping it like this?

I got a decent wall plug that i use for the mac

AutoRCM prevents accidental OFW boots. If you’re concerned about that sort of thing and can recognize when it’s in this state, it’s not that big a deal to keep it on a charger when not in use. If you see yourself doing this sort of thing very often though…it might not be worth the stress. :-p

You probably should leave it for a few hours at least. Sometimes the battery can just be so low that it's unable to turn on at all, even when plugged in.

Thanks but do u think im reading into this too much but when i connected it to my windows pc

Although i cant seem to be in rcm mode
Windows def recognises that the device is connected and basically says there isnt enough power for the port etc
Surely that means the device is actually turned on?

If you can't be bothered to use a jig every time you want to go into RCM, and you don't want to forever leave the console in sleep mode, then autoRCM should be kept. Just be aware when the console is in RCM and you'll be fine. Concerning the wall plug, I wouldn't recommend using anything other than the Nintendo charger, that came with your Switch. The console can be finicky with the things you plug into the USB port. Some people bricked their consoles in the early days with third-party docks.

Recognising a device as being connected and the actual device being powered on are 2 different things. I assume the problem is just as your computer is trying to tell you, the USB ports on it simply can't output enough power to charge it.

Ok it is on the official dock and i see a green light flashing
Is that normal?

I mean will it always flash like that or once it is totally charged

LED is usually TV output signal.

Skip the dock and just plug the charger directly into the switch.

ok so last thing to try before bed time is that the cable, pc and tegra all work ok for injections on another switch console

that means the source of the problem is def the original switch
still no luck getting that to work
going to leave it charged overnight
smh what a mess

Ok its been on charge all night

The left joycon has lights on there but the right one does not

When i connected it to the PC
Same error came up and then just for the once i was able to inject a payload

Thinking it was all good, the next thing that happened is there was an empty red battery icon that flashed on the top left hand side

Then nothing after that

I took the joycons off and i am still charging

I dont think the console is actually charging properly. Might be an internal issue here

Don't forget it was completely drained, so naturally it will take a while to get back to normal. Seeing the red empty battery icon is a good sign. Just let it charge some more, eventually your battery will rise from its grave. (I thought that would be appropriate, seeing it's Halloween tonight. :D)

Lol ok so thats good to hear.

Yes first time i seen the sign and its been on charge on the official switch wall charger for over 12 hours now

I got a payload sent but prob didnt have enough juice to properly power on. I think im going to turn auto rcm off

OK, let us know how it goes. Good luck! I'm not using autoRCM myself, as I modded my right joycon. That's another possibility for you.

Thanks, do u reckon turning off auto rcm will prevent this situation from occuring?
It would help, of course, since you'll be able to tell immediately if the Switch is off. A Switch in RCM is very hard to tell from a Switch turned off. But once you understand how RCM works, you shouldn't have troubles even with autoRCM. It's just a matter of paying attention. Thousands of users have autoRCM enabled. They're just being careful to not leave the Switch in RCM for too long and inject their payload quickly.

I will try it again in 8 hours
But i think the console is totally dead RIP

One thing i did notice is that there is a very very faint clicking noise when on charge.

All worked fine before, the kids said it went from 5% and died instantly. Since then it never came back on rcm
Mode.

I read online 24 hours max charge
After that zero chance. Im already looking at replacement switches 😠😩😫😳
