More of an onus than tons of people who want that feature to not have an option to enable/disable something at all?

If you honestly think that going into settings to disable a feature you dislike ONCE and never have to touch it again is worse than not having that option for tons of people who like it, then you're incredibly self-centered.

This. I've got both achievements & trophies 'disabled' as I think they're a complete waste of time... Disabling them took just a few seconds if I remember, job done. But, I've got friends that are that much into 'plat'ing they play stuff like Hanna Montana... baffles me, but there you go.
The same people won't touch the Wii U mainly for the reason of NOT having an achievement system, thus, Nin are obviously losing customers by not having the feature...

Achievements are kind of cool if you look at playing games as a sport/competition. I personally don't care about it as much, but I'd welcome an achievement system. Maybe unlockable badges for your Miiverse profile? It'd be very cool.

depends how they make them, there are lots of steam games that got achievements just to say they got achievements...

there are some games 90% of achievements are "complete level x" and the rest of 10% are shit like "talk to that character that you are required to pass that mission" or "kill 100 monsters"

some other games got stupid achievements that are just "fuck you player" like play this "shitty with no great content" game for 4 hours straight (in stanley parable, there is an achievement to play the game for 1 entire year...)

but there are fun achievements.. "find the secret door" "make a huge jump" "carry the gnome for the entire game" (this one was pretty fun)

but there indeed lots of bad games with achievements just for a person to make them...

Oh, there are cool achievements in games, but there are also games that have achievements as some sort of padding to say there's a lot of "content" in a game. But we're talking about Nintendo here, they even have nailed the concept of DLC unlike many other developers. I'm sure they'd get achievements right in a way that's actually fun and competitive.

Not having achievements/trophies on Nintendo is actually something I'm grateful because it has no real meaning nor value but if it's like in Smash which you get music, stages, figures and so then yeah, bring them up.

What about Global Smash Power?

What about Global Smash Power?

That has utility for the online portion as it's the ranking system.

Achievements/trophies of PS4/XO/Steam are just there to attempt to make the games any longer but if the player doesn't give a rats ass about it then that's as good as nothing.

I actually turned off the notification of achievements/trophies on my 360/PS3 because I never liked it and didn't want to see them.
