Whenever my 3ds is off, and I turn it on, sometimes I have to cycle through the power a few times (Bup dat power button, it throws up some code in the arm 11 crash whatever, I turn it off, repeat until cycle ends.) until it decides not to throw hands with “ptm” over a “kernel panic” or “prefetch abort” (both are common, explanation would be nice on what these mean alongside “ptm”) or whatever.

So...
what is (or may) my 3ds choking on when I boot it?

Maybe it's your sd card. I would backup files, empty card, test with this https://3ds.hacks.guide/h2testw-(windows).html if the card is good then move on if not get a new one then move on, and format with guiformat to fat32 32kb, then paste old files you backed up onto card

What’s the scenario here? I’m guessing old microsd/sd/sdhc? (I use a microsd, I have a NN3DSXL :D)
