I introduced my father to the wonders of Advance Wars on the GBA and after completing those he went to the DS to get his turn-based tactics fix from Dual Strike and Days of Ruin. Having been finished with those he went over to Panzer Tactics DS and enjoyed it.
Afterwards he tried Age of Empires games and hated them, same thing happened with EndWar, Steel Horizon and Civ Revolution. But finally a few days back I got him to try Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and he has started to like it, though says it's a poor version of Advance Wars... It's a shame he isn't interested fantasy/rpg games, so he could have more games to play from those.

Are there any more strategy games in the DS for a strategy dad up ahead in the future or some in the past?

Yeah, I can see he has a very specific taste in turn-based strategy games. I can dig that. I can't recall offhand, though, many games that fall in line with AW. He might get into Warhammer 40k, but I personally didn't think it was a great game. It definitely plays a bit like AW, though. There's no micro managing to worry about -- just straight up combat.

Your dad wants you to get him more than just the Advance Wars titles Dual Strike and Days of Ruin. I'm a dad, I would know

If he is reeeeally liking Panzer Tactics, then he REALLY wants to get Commander Europe at War.

Best place to purchase on this side of the Atlantic is

In fact, one of the best places to buy from this side of the Atlantic for odd games we older blokes like is that store.

I know the owner, and he is well respected among the adult military gamer crowd.

Chances are he will like T.A.C Heroes The Big Red One

And he can forget getting a better price anywhere else.
I have ordered it myself, but it only comes out this March 16th.

Personally I liked Steel Horizon and the Age of Empires series for the DS. But to each their own. Commander Europe at War is MORE detailed and MORE realistic than Panzer Tactics though. Keep that in mind. It's grand strategy and a nearly complete port of the PC title (which I helped create I might add

).

He might enjoy Front Mission if he likes positional turn based combat with Mechs.
He might enjoy B-17 Fortress of the Air is he wants to try a not so complicated to fly flight type game.
He might enjoy Allied Aces or Il 2 Sturmovick if he likes actual flight sim combat games.
I found the 'shooters' not suited to the DS, (my viewpoint)
I also think the tank sims are fun, but a bit dexterity challenging for us old blokes.

Helps if along with being a dad, you are also into military themed gaming

My personal claim to fame (what little it is) is I know several game publishers personally, and my name appears in the credits of some.

Thanks for the replies Dads. I'll look into the games you brought up,
but I think the best thing is for him to browse through that website with your list suggestions.

I also remember EndWar, though I personally didn't have the patience for it. Seemed to be kinda in the vein of AW, though.
