Hacking Any cautions to be taken?

I'm hoping to buy an already modded Wii (since i do not have time neither patience needed for doing it,and buying modded Wiis are cheaper than buying original ones on my country) I've been thinking if theres any cautions i have to take with a modded wii to not brick/destroy it? Is there something i shouldn't do? Or some caution i should take?

Np as hardmods r outdated years ago as softmod have really surpassed them in functionality
