my phone keeps forcing me into adware/imalware even when exiting. is there app (free) that works for this sort of thing?

I've always used bitdefender, never looked back. For Windows and Android.

Don't install junk apps and you don't get malware? I don't really know what else to do.

some phones got junk preinstalled.
i had a samsung that had adware in the remote tv app, couldn't remove it without root.
i really suggest phones that has as clean as it gets android ever since.
