So, ive recently injected super mario sunshine into my wii u but i cant spray normally running around this has to do with the way wii u handles the analog triggers of the gamecube controllers but is there any way around this?

Isn’t there a setting to use L as a modifier to make ZL and ZR act as half-pressed?

Yes there is don't inject use nintedont

Im using Nintendont with My gamepad but L doesn't work as a Half press on ZR ZL

Might be able to modify it in the padreadgc.c. that's what has the button controls.
