Hardware Amiibo Newbie

I bough several amiibo's for the switch. My son has Super Smash Bros for the Switch. Would an older version Amiibo work with newer version game ? Gamestop told me it should (like Skylanders), but he really has no knowledge to Amiibo.

The older set of Smash amiibo are recognised by the game in the same way as the new set. You have nothing to worry about.
