Okay, so this is gonna sound crazy, but I want to ADD DRM to an MP3/AAC file. I just got a new phone, and I want to use some of my MP3s/AACs as ringtones, but it won't let me do it since all my MP3s/AACs don't have DRM.

The phone in question is the Samsung Linx (SGH-T369). Anyone got any advice?

You can't add DRM to an MP3 file, the container doesn't support it.

What's the exact error message the phone gives you when you try to play an MP3?

The error message is, "Non-DRM file cannot be set as ringtone", or something to that effect. No error code or anything, plus Samsung doesn't seem to support the phone anymore. It's not exactly an old phone either; my carrier apparently started offering it a few weeks ago.

Strangely, the built-in MP3 player plays all my MP3s without a hitch. It's pretty much a ploy to get me to buy overpriced and crap ringtones off their service.

For what it's worth, it also supports AAC files.

It's either that the length is too long (2 minutes) or not the right bit rate or something else. I've attached a link that discusses a few encoding options. I think you can do most of them with Audacity. I'd have for you to get QT Pro or some virus infected cracked version of some stupid tool.

Try the Nokia Mobile Internet Toolkit. the link for it doesn't work on that page but google it and you can find the toolkit.

Nokia Mobile Internet Toolkit: Tried the instructions in that post, didn't work out.

Samsung Media Manager: I have it, but I'll need to get a micro USB cable first; they didn't pack one in >:(

Sorry... kinda out of options. There are definitely a lot of threads concerning this on Samsung phones. You'll have to see if you can google something better than I've been able to.
