So, long story short.
I got this converter thingy that enables me to blast my guitar through my PC Speakers
My question: is it possible to add real-time effects to this?
I've been googling without results :L
Thanks in advance.

Afraid I do not really follow the guitar world all that much but to answer your question yes you can- think of all the various voice changing applications that do the same thing. Recording and postprocessing is trivial so no need to cover that.

Anyhow you seem to want to use your computer as an effects unit (in real time of course) aka real time DSP (digital signal processing).
A handful of applications:

http://www.playpro.com/reviews.html
http://www.ultrawavestudios.co.uk/Guitar_E...performance.htm
http://exef.xko.cz/ (linux based but it is freeware).

I have never heard of any of them prior to this but hopefully you can use it as a starting point for a search.

I personally use Guitar Rig.
Take a look at this article on amp modeling software

Check out these freeware plugins too, for any VST host
http://www.simulanalog.org/guitarsuite.htm
Code:
- Boss DS-1 (Distortion stompbox)
- Boss SD-1 (Super Overdrive stompbox)
- Tube Screamer (Overdrive stompbox)
- Oberheim PS-1 (Phaser stompbox)
- Univox Univibe (Modulations stompbox)
- Fender Twin 1969 (Guitar amplifier)
- Marshall JCM900 Dual Reverb (Guitar amplifier)

We are talking electric, right?

Its a semi-acoustic guitar, which means its acoustic but it can be plugged into an amp

EDIT: Tried fxbox, worked perfectly
