Besides, can't all the fanboys just go to the CoD website? It's got it's own MW3 page so shouldn't that be enough? Or do they really need a whole website? Why can't Activision just register CoD-MW3.com?

Some people will just go to ModernWarfare3.com assuming it is the official site without checking. Why wouldn't it be?
PS3.com is for PS3
Wii.com is for Wii
A lot of major games get dedicated websites, even if they just redirect to a central company page with a subsection for that game.

Although, I was a bit surprised that no-one owns finalfantasy7.com

I personally don't think the CoD series is all it's cracked up to be. I enjoy them, sure. But I wouldn't put any of them in my top ten games of all time. Hell, I doubt they'd see the top fifty. Using Black Ops as an example. The plot was OK, was nice to see a story of some sort woven in. Zombies mode didn't thrill me at all, I found it boring. And the online multiplayer was OK, right up until the realisation that I'm putting up with a bunch of racist ignorant twelve year olds hurling abuse at me just to watch someone who doesn't exist get promoted to a rank that doesn't exist in a world that doesn't exist to unlock shiny new paint jobs which don't exist for guns that don't exist. It's very much like World Of Warcraft in that it all seems to be about watching numbers go up so you can brag about them. The story seems secondary to that. The gameplay's not bad but I don't think the experience as a whole works for me.

I don't like how it dominated the online scene either. The first few weeks after Black Ops was released, nobody was playing literally any other game online at all. So here's me waiting for a match on Street Fighter and I was there for days because everyone else was too busy obsessing over getting to that latest prestige star before their friends.

And please don't desecrate the hilarious Biggus Dickus sketch just to bash a game...

I'm getting annoyed with cod
only reason i play it is cause my friends do
maybe i'll try convince them to get a better game
That's impossible I'm afraid. Mainstream gamers are ensnared in a never ending trap, I've never heard of one that stopped liking it.

QUOTE(CarbonX13 @ Jul 16 2011, 08:13 PM) Well said. Here's hoping that Activision kills off Call of Duty like they did with Guitar Hero.
I must really be behind the times. I didn't know Guitar Hero was dead.

It's been dead for like 2 years.
5 months, actually.

There's no difference between what CoD and Pokemon does. Seriously, the only thing negative about the series is Activision itself, what a shitty company.

People just like to jump on the CoD hate bandwagon without any actual knowledge. Most of the people have never actually played any of the games, albeit more than 5 minutes.

That's true, there are people who hate it just because it's popular despite the fact that they've never played them, it pisses me off. I make it a chore to play every new CoD (or any game period) for a set amount of time before I go on to judge it. For instance, I've played all of them, and only genuinely hate 5-7 (originally 4 too, but then I thought about it and I actually had fun with the Campaign and even went on to beat it; still don't like the online, though).

Okay...and? Why did you even bring that up?

Also, I can think of pleny of CoD's bad points.
I can think a lot of Pokémon's bad points too. They're quite similar (gameplay wise aside, of course) in regard of "innovative gameplay".

It does have a lot of bad points, I agree. But I wouldn't say they are innovative in the same way.

The thing with CoD is, we have a new one every 6 to 12 months. There may be an entire year between the release of Black Ops and the new CoD game. With the focus on multiplayer that the series as a whole has taken with the past few games, they don't give very substantial time to enjoy each game online for an entire player base. Who cares about the few that play the game endlessly? They don't make up the majority. You stack that in with buggy online (a buggy focus is no good), a dodgy story and lack of developer support, and you get one not good game. After CoD4, they just started turning out the games like clockwork with few regards to updates and innovation.

Pokemon doesn't release as often, or they do with major updates and changes. Look at Pearl/Diamond/Platinum. They all offered one hell of a change after Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Heart Gold/Soul Silver offered a genuine experience with major graphical and game play changes compared to the original three games they were based off of. Black and White are one of those major leaps with a new focus on how the graphics roll, a new generation, new game play elements, and a solid package. The game play may seem repetitive to some (me included), but they undeniably offer more genuinely new content in each release than the CoD games do. Pokemon games also aren't released plastered with bugs and problems that have to be fixed later.

Before you say it, yes, I have played every single CoD game. I have played them a lot. I can honestly say that they started going very far downhill after CoD4 in terms of story and online.

I didn't see changes at all in Pearl, Diamond and Platinum. The core was all preserved, they made some additions that changed the metagame, but that's it. The story, singleplayer is almost the same as the first generation. Across the generations, some additions where bigger than others, but nothing that substantial to the core gameplay.

Same with CoD.

Also, I only play CoD games made by Infinity Ward, I agree with the the series being too milked... reason why I hated Activision. But I don't see nothing wrong with the singleplayer on these games. MW2 multiplayer was hell'a fun to me.
