I want to swap out the songs and audio in NL for songs of my own choosing, which I know is possible because I'm able to complete audio overhauls for NL but no information as to how to make one for myself. All I could find was this and it doesn't explain how to actually get the files into the game.

You can use Luma's game patching to replace files in-game, Here's a guide I found for it: gist.github.com/PixelSergey/5dbb4a9b90d290736353fa58e4fcbb42
Assuming you already understand how to create BCSTM files, this should explain the rest for you. If you dump your game's files as mentioned in that guide, you'll know the exact file paths and names of the files you'll want to replace. You can also use a program that supports playing BCSTM files to find out exactly which file corresponds to which song in the game.
