Acer Aspire 4315 shorted motherboard

Hi guys, i have an Acer Aspire 4315 and i tried to install a battery, i Buy it from Aliexpress then instales it, but the laptop never turned on again an gets hot in the mousepad area, here is a pic of the area where it gets hot.

Hope you guys can help me, in this laptop i have tons of homebrew and unended projects

Honestly that thing is ancient in terms of modern pcs. (Single core 1.73gz, 1gb ram, sata 1 5400rpm hdd). i personally would just remove the hdd and put it in another pc and recover all your files off it.

I added 4 gig of ram, a core 2 duo and an SSD thats why im nervous about this laptop

Specs on it say 2gb max ram, but guess its possible. And even tho you have ssd, it still is only reading sata 1 speeds, (max 1.5gbs). I personally would not invest any more money to it, pull the ssd out and consider yourself lucky it lasted this long.

It could be anything.
The hardest part is identifying what.

Not turning on means a voltage rail got busted. It might be the 3V one, maybe the 5v one, maybe the one handling the processor, maybe the one handling gpu.
And even then, identifying which can ve troublesome as it might fry whichever voltage rail is damaged.

Besides, if the PCB has two different sides, you might require a more specific approach. For this, you'll need the schematics to see where voltage rails are physically and know exactly how much voltage each needs, then, it's a simple matter of measuring voltages to find which voltage rail is busted, and then identify what component is shorted (might be a coil, a transistor or a capacitor).

I my opinion, you should remove everything (ssd/hdd, ram, and whatever you might've added) and use it in another equipment. THEN you should plug your laptop and diagnose it properly.

Sometimes there's visible damage, look for black, descolored or busted components, your picture is way to washed out, and even then, you'll have to provide pics of voltage rails and from both pcb sides.

I found that a 5v of the USB interface of the camera is shorted and that causes the PC to not boot, i identified the mosfet close to the VGA conector and i replaced it, now is cooling down so lets wait to see what happens

Also if one of those who have a laptop like mine, never buy third party or in My personal opinion test it with an old PCB or test it with a multimeter to avoid the problem that happened to me, it can happen to everyone even with modern laptops so always think two times before You buy something

It booted up finally

I love seeing repaired equipment instead of just replacing. Great work!
