Is it possible to update the Acekard 2i without putting it in the 3DS? I have a 3.0.0-6 3DS and was considering buying an Acekard, but I'm not sure if I will be able to update the firmware to the needed level without the 3DS itself.

In order to update an Acekard, you must update it using a Nintendo DS/DSi/3DS that it presently works on. Many sellers say that their Acekards have been pre-updated to work on 3.0.0-6. If you have access to a Nintendo DS or DS Lite, then it doesn't matter since an Acekard will work with those no matter what (since they cannot be updated).

Okay, and can I play videos from an Acekard? Sorry, I'm new to flashcarts. I wish a softmod would be discovered for the 3DS, so the good ol' homebrew channel could be used on my 3DS. :)

One last question...
Which is better, the R4 cart, or the Acekard?
That's a matter of opinion. Both are great and receive regular updates so that they're compatible with the latest games. If you plan on using it with a 3DS, then an Acekard 2i, R4i Gold 3DS, or SuperCard DSTWO are your three best options. The DSTWO is likely the best (GBA emulator, etc), but it is the most expensive. The Acekard 2i and R4i Gold 3DS are cheap and are almost equally good. Some Acekard users experience contact issues, but I've never had any issues.

Well, considering that real R4 units have not been in production for years, and the Acekard is rated one of the best budget cards to date, I'd say the Acekard. :P
The R4i Gold 3DS probably receives more frequent software updates (Wood) and firmware updates than the Acekard does (but the important thing is that they all receive regular updates). The Acekard has also been known to have contact issues and is slightly more expensive than the R4i Gold 3DS. The fact that the original R4 is out of production is irrelevant. I love my Acekard, but all three flashcarts are good.

Never had issues with the Acekard myself. My DSTWO went bad on me though, contact issues somewhere with it. And I had forgotten about Wood.

So to each his own I suppose.

Unless you just have to have a GBA emulator on your DS, I recommend the Acekard 2i or the R4i Gold 3DS. The Acekard 2i sometimes has contact issues, but they are sometimes fixable using a piece of paper, and most people report never having issues at all. I'd say both carts are equal in quality.
