Still unopened, my Acekard 2 stays on my shelf for fear that it is a ticking time bomb of wasted cash. What kind of support is there in case it fails? Is it safe to the DS compared to the other carts?

Really, My biggest question is: Has the Acekard 2 team fixed the issues with the original Acekard 2?

Sorry for all the questions, It's just that I am unsure if my purchase was a good one.

You already purchased it, so why not open and test it? It is the only way to know if the one you got is okay. If it is defective just trade for another one or ask for a refund.

I haven't seen any new reports of problematic cards, at least not like in May/June, so I think they might have fixed it.

What was the problem anyway?

The original batch had problems with the SD card probably a few faulty fuses and all that...

...except they failed after a while, not immediately. Many were stuck on "Processing" screens 3 weeks after buying and first using their card. Some never even got it to boot!

So, after using it for like 3 weeks, my card could suddenly stop working?!?!!?

That's the latest I've heard it happening. Really I don't really know much more other than the failures were pretty widespread.

I got an ak2 that I bought at the end of March, and its still going strong.

I haven't heard of anyone getting their ds bricked while using an ak2, So yes it is safe to use.

better to use it now and find its faulty than to wait forever and have vendor refuse to take it back because its been too long.

I don't understand why you don't just open the AK2. It's not blister packaging or anything. Just open it, fire it up, and see how it goes. Try it for a week or two and see what happens. Like jabjab said, if you wait for so long, the vendor may very well refuse your exchange.
