Hey guys,

I accidentally updated the firmware on my 3ds xl 4.3 to 8.1 while trying to update gateway.

I'm assuming there's no way to currently reverse this?

Just wanted to check thanks,

The only way to reverse is restoring a NAND backup using a hardware mod. If you made a NAND backup before anything else, as it's recommended.

Try looking HERE.

You'll have to solder a few wires to the 3DS XL's board, then connect them to a SD Card reader and plug it to a PC. Then you can write the old NAND back using some simple software.

I tried going through that link but its more complex than I thought.

Is there a guide somewhere on how to do it?

There's a difference between NAND and emuNAND. Unless you opened up your unit and did some hardware modifications to extract a NAND, you don't have a NAND backup. Pulling a PC application or using a Gateway utility would be emuNAND, not NAND.

Gateway can make NAND backups via software.
If he performed it before the accidental update, he should have a successful backup copy of his original SYSNAND.

Are you sure? Because based on what I've read it backs up the NAND.

for all intents and purposes even emunand is compatible with flashing to the console if you extract it with emunand tool (but it eould be whatever FW emunand was updated to).........but no gateway makes perfectly fine nand dumps to restore

I'll have to double check that. I was almost for certain it was emuNAND and not sysNAND.

Edit: Perhaps I was mistaken. It doesn't say explicitly NAND or emu, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt

If you can't do the nand back up or find someone else to do it for you, then you always got the option of selling your 3DS and buying another one, with the <4.5 firmware. Got no idea how much this would cost you it all depends...

I'm willing to try to mod it myself, but I can't seem to find any good instructions =/.

Its only a suggestion, if your not experienced with it, you don't want to muck up the 3ds all together and end up buying a new one at full price.

There was a tutorial around here. You have your 4.0 NAND backup, right? If so, just Google around and you should stumble across a good tutorial.

I wonder if there are any members here who could do it if I paid for shipping. Lol.

hundshamer does the usb mod and is US based, i do it too but only really for Uk ....not sure what postage will be like to the US for you but drop him a pm and see
(ps there is a cost but its not that much :P)

Awesome.

Its better than doing it myself and destroying my brand new 3ds. Besides a small fee to a gbatemp member is something I'd be glad to do instead of a sleazy corporation!
