My N3DS's R Button is dead and I really want to play Zelda and other games but those which need the R Button are almost unplayable. I'd like to remap the R Button to the ZR Button.

Is there a way to do something like that?

Although you cannot remap the buttons you can do this.
As far as I'm aware, there is no tool that creates virtual buttons on the touch screen. But going by the assumption that your friend has a 3DS with custom firmware, he can use the tool NTR Redirector to control the buttons of his 3DS using a PC (which you can in turn connect an external controller to). He could either use the original version of NTR Redirector or the one built into the multipurpose tool 'KitKat'.

I saw a thread on this a few weeks ago, but I'm having trouble finding it because the search function isn't too great on this site. If I recall correctly it is possible, but no one has created a tool yet that can carry out the function. I think the OP on that thread was offering a bit of money for someone to create the tool for him.

Here's the thread. http://gbatemp.net/threads/is-there-any-way-to-remap-3ds-buttons-with-a9lh.442488/

Somewhere on the second page is the solution, but you have to make a new file for each remap.

You could always buy a replacement ribbon cable for the button and replace it yourself. It takes like a whole 20 minutes to open the DS, replace the ribbon cable, then reassemble it. 9/10 that's how the L/R buttons stop working if the cable becomes ripped or bent. You can order replacement L&R ribbons on Amazon, they're like $5. I only say because NTR is only a temp fix, if you REALLY want your console fixed it's easy and a lot better than paying Nintendo $85 for it. :D Here's a good tutorial if you decide you want to. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+3DS+Right+Shoulder+Button+Replacement/5644

I would love a way to mirror the L and R triggers on the circle nub.

Ok so my R Button seems to be working all of a sudden. I didn't even do anything but I'm not complaining. But still thanks for all the help and for the L + B = R Tool!

Oh cool! But do you know how to map them to other buttons?

Or can you just do that in the CIA? (I'm not at home right now)
Yeah, you'd have to edit the source code of the tool, but the creator said it involves ASM. It would be pretty cool if someone made a fully fledged version of it, with button customization on the app.

I tried it out and L + B doesn't seem that bad but of course in games like Mario Kart it's pretty bad. Well at least my R Button works again.

Yeah, L + B must suck for MK7. Especially with the L being use item. Glad to hear you've got your R button working though.
