Hey everyone,

I just wrapped up my last project and I'm itching for something new to dive into, and texture upscale and editing is what I want to do next. I’ve got the basics down for dumping and loading textures, and I’ve done some upscaling with Topaz AI, which isn’t perfect. Now, I’m starting to edit the upscales and fix what the AI didn’t get right, or just whatever changes I want to make.

I’m looking for some beginner to intermediate guides on doing successful upscales. I’ve found a few short YouTube videos, but nothing in-depth that holds your hand to start and then goes into more intermediate territory. Most of the guides I’ve come across are about replacing textures using pre-made packs, but I want to get into the nitty-gritty of making my own pack or at least understanding and appreciating the work that goes into creating them.

I’ve heard about Cupdate and I’m looking into that. I’ve been using GIMP and Paint.net after the upscales for some basic editing, mostly UI elements. I remember seeing something about a program to help organize textures from I believe was Panda, or it may have been from their interview a while ago, but I can’t seem to find it again.

I’m still figuring out transparencies and how to successfully reinsert the textures, some are looking quite wonky, but I’m having a blast, and I will get there.

I have to admit I worry the info I'm asking for is staring me in the face in the group, but I’m just not seeing it.

I have quite a few questions and want to do my due diligence before attempting to pick everyone's brain.

I appreciate any help you can give.

I've made a little guide with basic descriptions of what you need to know about transparency, mipmapping, ID, formats, etc.

As for the process of upscaling textures, most people use Chainner. You can join our Discord Server and ask there too. I use the old console with no interface, so I can't help you with that.
