1. Does the lesser RAM in the PSP 1000 effect homebrew/games at all?
2. What is the best CFW for the PSP 1000?

1. I think it affects certain applications like the internet browser. Not sure about games though, but I did read somewhere that in games that allow you to change the CPU speed or the color depth (Like KHBBS) have certain settings aren't availiable to 1000 users.
2. Probably 5.50 Prometheus 4, but this varies greatly from user to user. Not that it matters if you have a Pandora battery.

1 - The only three I'm aware of are the mod for the browser (it still sucks with it anyways), the N64 emulator (which works just fine without it, just having slightly longer loading times), and the video site viewer (don't know the drawback here, haven't tested it).

2 - A 5.x firmware. This means M33-6 or Gen D-3, with Prome-4 ontop.
Yes there's 6'x firmwares, but they do less (for now).

Sorry for bumping this, but will I lose compatibility with newer games if I use a 5.x firmware?
