Hacking 5.4 - Do I have to update?

I have 5.4 on my wii u, do I have to update to install games on usb or can I do it without updating?

You do not have to be on 5.5.1 to use the Brazilian method, but it's still highly recommended to update anyways. There is no downside to being on 5.5.1 anymore.

MAYBE 5.5.0 as well... The PPC kernel and IOSU kernel didn;t change between 5.5.0 and 5.5.1, only the browser changed. So the current redNAND implementation should work on 5.5.0 as well.

if you connect to internet you would automatically skip 5.5.0 so you'll be on the latest 5.5.1.. ^^

but it shouldn't be a problem, hacks are available on 5.5.1.. personally there's no downside on updating..i don't know about you tho..if you really want to stay on that firmware it's your call..
