Hi there,

Hopefully, some kind soul can help me :)

I modded our 3ds XL a couple of years ago with Luma3DS and pretty much handed it to my daughter and let her get on with enjoying it.
It's not been switched on for a few months until tonight when I notice that the freeshop app has disappeared...

FBI and Homebrew launcher are still there and working, as are all the .cia games that were installed - The Luma updater crashes out though.

So, I'd like to get everything updated and working again, but I'm going to need some guidance as it's a bit of a minefield when you're not overly familiar with the process..

The system software is on v11.2.0-35E and Luma3ds is on v6.6.

Thanks in advance

Macca

Follow https://3ds.guide/a9lh-to-b9s to get everything up to date. The luma updater is a pain to get working and there's unlikely to be a lot of updates from now on so probably forget about that (uninstall it if you like). FreeShop will no longer work, Nintendo fixed things on their end so it can never work ever again for any 3DS family console.

Thanks for the link - I'll work through it when I'm back home in a couple of days.

Is there any recommendation for the 3DS firmware?
Do I leave it as is or update to the latest version?

Cheers

Update if you want to play online or if you're playing any recent games that need a higher firmware (it will play the red and black 3DS logo endlessly when trying to start the game if this is the case) or if you get sick of the update nag. Otherwise you don't have to.

I've worked through the guide you linked for me and everything appears to be up and running :)

The only thing outstanding is that I have 2 luma updater icons now, one for the old version and one for the new version and I can't work out how to remove/uninstall the old version.
FBI only appears to have a single entry for the Luma updater...

It's only a small niggle that I can certainly live with - Thanks again for your help

Have a look under system settings -> other settings -> 3DS software (not 100% sure on that path but it is something like that) and see if you can delete from there?

And no worries :)
