I got told by the the shop assistant who demoed the 3ds to me that Nintendo are trying to do a deal with Sky TV in the UK which will allow them to supply 3D content for the 3ds, whether this is just bs, only time will tell.

It's true. Sky will be offering short 3D content on UK 3DS systems.
