3ds lovers vs. haters

So I guess I'd like to ask, is this a community of decent folks who help one another out by offering constructive, useful suggestions and answers to legitimate questions without judgment, or...have you all been playing Street Fighter too long?

Yes, we are a community of decent folks... you have to understand that doesn't mean not to make jokes... That means when you need to know something you'll have your answer, maybe a funny answer, maybe a serious answer... This is a great community, we all are pals...

Why can't the DS play 3DS games? Is it merely an issue of logistics, or is there a greater stake involved, namely profiteering at the customer's expense? I'm not satisfied with the company response (in a nutshell, "no,") and I'm definitely not happy with the community response, which was basically, to just suck it up, you lame-o.

It's a simple fact of hardware specifications.
The 3DS is a different and much more powerful machine than a DS or DSi.
In the same way that you can't expect a PS2 game to run on a PSX, or a PS3 game to run on a PS2, games developed for the 3DS can not be expected to run on the DSi or DS.

At least Nintendo have included backwards compatibility so that DS and DSi games can be played on the 3DS. That's more than you get with some console generation gaps.

Sorry, just noticed that the bit I originally quoted asked "why can't the 3DS play DS games?", which it can.
But in another section of your post you said "So I stumbled my way to this forum, to find a similar question asked, namely, can you play 3ds games on a DS"
Seems you either made a typo in one place or the other, or you're a bit confused about what you're asking.

To clarify:
The new device, called the 3DS, can play the games that are made for it, and the games that were made for the previous devices called the DS and the DSi.
Those old devices (DS and DSi) however, can not play the games made for the new device (3DS), which is no shock to most people with any experience in the workings of consumer electronic devices, or anyone who stops and thinks about it for a moment or two.

Honey, nothing personal, but it seems you're more confused than I am. If you read back, you'll see that I specifically asked why the DS can't play 3ds games, not the other way around. I know it's confusing, but still...it's a legitimate question, one that got me here, to this forum, in defense of some other person out there who asked the same question and got shafted big time. I understand the 3ds is supposed to be backwards compatible to be able to play DS games, that's cool. It's the...I guess you'd call it "frontwards" capability that I was wondering about. But even the backwards compatibility is suspect, judging from some reviews I've read...one person said the text in his DS game played on the 3ds was blurry, and when he went to adjust the resolution, it shrunk. Someone else said his DS game itself shrunk in the screen, so that it wasn't full-screen, the 3ds screen being small to begin with. Those were all worries for me, enough for me to forego my long-awaited and coveted 3ds in favor of its ancestor, the dsi xl. But there's still time to return my order, so has anyone else experienced problems playing their DS games on the 3ds (a reversal of what I initially asked)? Just wondering...

He answer was valid, he just got confused when you was talking about someone else. (The 3DS games
on the ds)

Now I have not got my own yet, but I heard if you turn the brightness down to I think the 4th level while the 3DS is playing ds games, the different between ds and ds compatibility is less to not noticeable.

He meant that he wanted to play 3DS games on a regular DS, but without 3D functionality. But it's impossible anyway. the 3DS has a totally different resolution (which the DS probably won't scale to) and the 3DS has more power (processor, ram, graphics, etc)

ah, okay. but yeah people don't realise the 3ds is a whole new system, like the gba was to the gbc.

I love my 3ds, but I'm not playing it much at the minute.

Just have to wait until the 3ds shop opens, Zelda comes out, and more games come out with an online mode in general, I would have bought SSFIV3D but I already own in on the 360 so I don't see the point.

Ridge Racer 3D could have really used online, it would have placed it in the top 2 launch titles beside Street Fighter if it did!

When you consider that 90+% of the rumours and stories are outright bullshit, it does seem hard to like the 3DS if you believe almost anythng said against it.

Like for instance the part about bad for eyes, believe it if you must, pure fiction.
The part about the screen damage, pure fiction.

Oh and as I have had actual access to the thing, this isn't conjecture. But again, believe what you feel like believing.

For me, I have no 'hate'.

When they make the thing big enough I will be interested. Nintendo, just a small tip, everyone is making everything B I G G E R.

My TV was made bigger. My computer monitor has grown to near TV size. My laptop could be 17 inches if I wanted one that big.
It's no longer cool or even worth mention that you make a hand held game device Nintendo, because I can even play wargames on the iPad now.
All the real cool items held in a hand will shortly be the size of a small book or bigger.

Yeah it won't fit in a pocket. Well unless you ONLY want to sell to grade schoolers, who cares.

My ideal item is 8.5x11 the size of normal paper and normal books for the most part.
I'd drop 500 bucks on something the size of my laptop monitor that had all the parts of the bottom of my laptop built into the back in a heartbeat.
Give me something like an iPad, that isn't stuck in Appleland OS garbage and able to play Windows programs, and you can forget me ever wanting to hear what Nintendo is making.

No, the only thing that is wrong with the 3DS, is it's a lot of power in a device too damned small to be of any use.
Chances of me watching a video on one, less than zero.
Chances of me caring if it can play video are thus, zero.

But if you don't mind playing you oh so wonderful 3d on one of the smallest screens of current teck, go right ahead.
But you can get a netbook for the same price eh.
And you can likely get a netbook to play an emulator and play anything pre 3DS on a larger screen.
And until there is like a few hundred 3d games, what's to be excited about?

Good to see some topic like these man i have the 3ds in hand once and the first thing i say"size of a ds lite?" i was able to play Street fighter and bah... the only thing i think was interest was the little cards 3ds thing"i don't know what the hell is that call" the one whit you play whit the camera 3ds that is nice but i don't like the console at all

I neither love, nor hate the 3DS. I'm just not going to bother with one, or any other new game system for that matter. I need to find things that will put cash money in my pocket, not create another avenue of exit for it.

It's like being a moderator, it didn't put a dime in my pocket (not even a penny), so I quit. I don't have time to do volunteer work anymore. I don't have the luxury of being able to be preoccupied with something that isn't making me money anymore. I need green money and giving a damn about video games and forum infractions doesn't provide me with any. I wish it did, but it doesn't.
