Hardware 3ds in extra memory mode consumes more battery?

i have notices playing monster hunter 4 u that my battery gets drain out way faster , this is due to the extra memory mode right? Im going in a train trip tomorrow and I want to know as if it is so I won't play mh4 in it :P
