Hi guys, i don’t usually ask for help with these certain things, but im currently at a lost and have no idea where to start

So about 4 months ago i was playing my modded 3ds and everything was going fine, i decided i wanted to delete a few games so i went into the settings and selected a game to delete, then i returned to the home screen and all of my homebrew apps (like fbi etc) disappeared, then i tried getting it back by using a backup i used on my laptop, now the 3ds says that my micro sd card cannot be accessed. i have no idea what to do, im thinking i should just start over but i dont even know how i should go about that, do i buy a new sd card?

Please make the topic title you are creating descriptive, clearly reflecting the topic you are addressing. Do not make generic titles such as "Question", "I need help"

do i buy a new sd card?
Well, you can't exactly keep using your current SD card if it's busted, now can you..?

Can you still read the card on your PC? This is not clear from your post.

If it's an SD with more than 64gb capacity, be sure to format it to Fat32, instead of EXFat. A guide is on Google somewhere, if this works, let me know! Good luck!

it’s a sd card with 256gb, full sure i formatted it with Fat64, thinking it would help but im not sure if thats the reason but i may just get a new sd card,

is there any possible way i can just wipe everything and start again? i feel that would be more easier than trying to restore everything because i have no idea where to even begin, i tried installing homebrew apps but they just wont appear i do apologise ik this is probably such a headache i dont mean to burden you but i really just wanna get my 3ds back

thanks

All good! So first, are you okay with your save files getting deleted? If so, we can wipe everything and start fresh. I'll get back to you after a school so I can guide you through the whole wiping process.

i do apologise

Instead of apologizing, why not answer the question?

Also:
full sure i formatted it with Fat64,
There is no such thing as "Fat64". Perhaps you mean to say that you formatted it as FAT32 with 64k clusters.

Assuming you can still read the card at all, the standard procedure is to copy everything off the SD card using Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier, format the card, and test the card with h2testw. If h2testw says the card is okay, then you can try copying everything back again; sometimes that is enough to fix things. If h2testw says the card has errors, then you should stop using the card.

If you get a new card, then after formatting it, you can just copy the data from your old card. If you want to start over from scratch, then just follow https://3ds.guide/restoring-updating-cfw .

tbh i don’t really mind honestly, think the only game i really progressed in was pokemon platinum, so i don’t really mind starting fresh, would just prefer to have it and play games again instead of it collecting dust

Never skip on quality storage. And when doing out-of-the-box stuff, read and learn how to do it right. I've had phones literally stop working because of cheap and shitty sd cards, and consoles are no different, especially when they come with particular setup formats they like or need.

It's not a question about "modding 3DS's", it's a question about whether or not you can read your SD card at all on your PC anymore.

Then please follow the instructions in my previous post. If you have difficulty reading the instructions, perhaps you should ask someone to help you in person.

nah i did everything correctly and i just assumed i could just delete a game and it would be fine, my sd card seemed fine, it was one of those samsung evo ones.
