+1 Cave Story 3D: The game was very enjoyable for me. Especially since I hadn't played the other versions of the game for more than 10 minutes, so I was able to fully enjoy this game.
+1 Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7: Yet another Lego game that is a great pick up and play game.
+1 Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor Overclocked: Great story and tons of monsters to obtain make this a great way to pass many hours.
+1 Shinobi: At first the game seemed kind of bland, but the game becomes really fun the more you play it.
+1 Star Fox 64 3D: I had a ton of fun with this game. I've already finished the game about 30 times, but I can't resist beating it again and again.
+1 Super Mario 3D Land: The game may be short, but it still has tons of fun to be had over and over. Remember Super Mario Bros. on the NES only had 32 stages and I probably put a few thousand hours into that game. Mario games are fun to replay over and over again.
+1 Tetris Axis: This version of Tetris is a great way to pass time when you're out and about with your daily life. It's amazing how fun Tetris can still be after over 20 years.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy.

I'm appalled to see that no one knows about this game. It seems that it had 0 advertisement whereas its big brother had a lot of it.
Let me make it clear that this game is much better than what you will see on the Xbox360/Ps3 version.
This is a remake, REMAKE, of Ace Combat 2. In other words, a true Ace Combat game and not something that was bred with the COD formula.

+10 points if i could give it.

Best game on my 3DS. (And i have about 80% of the 3DS's library).

+1 Super Mario 3D Land - Its Mario. What else do I need to say.
+1 Sonic Generations - Awesome Game. Its one of the best looking 3DS games I've seen so far.

+1 Super Mario 3D Land
+1 Lego Pirates of the Caribbean
+1 Pilotwings Resort
+1 Ocarina of Time

I don't own a 3DS, but my girlfriend does, I often "borrow it" so I have a voice in this, deal wit'it.

+1 Sonic Generations [PLATFORMER]
+1 Nintendog+Cats [SIMULATION]
+1 Resident Evil: Mercenaries [SHOOTER]
+1 DoA: Dimensions [FIGHTING]
+1 Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars [STRATEGY]
-1 Zelda OoT [Portendo 3DS]
-1 Starfox 64 [Portendo 3DS]
-1 SMT: DS OverClocked [Portendo 3DS]
-1 Splinter Cell 3D [Portendo 3DS]

Disclaimer:

[Portendo 3DS] games are marked as such when the developer clearly didn't put any effort into releasing them at all. They're nothing more then Fan Service and contain hardly any extra content compared to their original release. Touchscreen support and built-in 3D isn't enough for me to warrant their purchase. They're marked Saddle-brown because that's a s*itty move that I'm allergic to. A game could be bad, but then it gets 0 points because at least the programmers tried. The game could be mediocre or I haven't played it yet, it would get 0 points aswell. But when I played the game a good few years ago and then I'm asked to buy it again for a contemporary price, THEN I get furious. Instant -1. Remakes get a pass, but only if they're actual remakes with large improvements. See the difference between Resident Evil and RE:Make for the Game Cube? That's a remake.

Sonic Generations[PLATFORMER] is a wonderful game - it looks beautiful and it has an extra-ordinary soundtrack. In fact, even if you don't like Sonic games, the soundtrack itself warrants a purchase - it's amazing. From what I've seen so-far all I can tell is that Sonic Team is back in the game, since Colours the quality of Sonic games drastically improved and I hope this trend will carry on.

Nintendog+Cats [SIMULATION] gets a point because you can genuinely see that the studio tried - the puppies are well-modeled, the addition of cats is welcome, the voice recognition has been improved. It's hard to improve a Tamagotchi game, but Nintendogs+Cats shows that apparently you can if you try hard enough.

Resident Evil: Mercenaries [SHOOTER] recieved a point for its simplicity - some call it a glorified Mercenaries mini-game, and they are right. Others call it a heck of alot of fun, and they are also right. For me, gaming is about fun, and if shooting zombies in the face is not fun for you, there's clearly something wrong with you or you just don't like the genre. The game looks pretty, playes like the original games and has Multiplayer Co-Op, which is more then welcome in that kind of games. It may come at a hefty price, it may be short, but due to the fact it "feels like a minigame" and doesn't have much of a story to tell since it's non-canon, it has alot of replay value. If you don't want to pay full-price for it (understandable), at least pick up a pre-owned copy.

DoA: Dimensions [FIGHTING] gets points from me because I'm sexist and because I'm more into it than I'm into Street Fighter. Really, there are no other reasons. Seriously though, it looks interesting enough to warrant a purchase for me.

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars [STRATEGY] is an original approach to a tired franchise. Anyone who likes both, Ghost Recon AND strategy games will understand why this position is interesting, and that's why it recieves a +1 from me.

^ wtf you can't write off games because they are ports. Zelda oot is perfect as it is, any drastic changes could have made it different to the original, they are kept in mind to be like the originals for both old and new players to enjoy as it was. Both starfox and OOT have been given a makeup over and look so much better in terms in graphics compared to their n64 versions. They shouldn't be judged cuz they been released previously, they are now 3DS games.

Not everyone has freaking played Zelda OOT nor starfox before.

I stand by my previous statement of this essentials thread being crap with the minus votes, format and what not. But whatever.

-1 Zelda OoT [Portendo 3DS]
Zelda OOT 3D is more of a remake than a port.
  • All the textures have been remade from the ground-up
  • Master Quest and a Boss Challenge was added
  • Help system added in case players get stuck
  • The controls were re-done
  • Water Temple was fixed
Doesn't seem like a port to me. As for Star Fox, the graphics were also re-done but I do feel that game is a waste of money. Not enough features to justify a purchase.

Textures were probably ripped straight from the unreleased Zelda DD, and even if they weren't, game studios always keep RAW textures in high resolution in case of such a "remake" idea or in case the compressed ones look crap, so no hard work there, Master Quest is nothing new in OoT, the Help system is just a watered-down Walkthrough, the controls HAD to be re-done because it's made for a different platform that lacks the Z button, bugfixes do not constitute a "remake", they constitute an "update". There's no point in porting errors.

All in all, the game looks "purdy" because it's on a smaller screen. Played it, wasn't impressed, that's it. Compare RE:Make to Zelda OoT 3DS and THEN tell me that the "Remake Status" was achieved, because for me it was not - it's nearly the exact same game.

Yes, I can, and I just did. I'm not going to pay a 2011 price for a 1996-97 game and that's it. It's fantastic that they're minorly better from the graphics standpoint then their originals - if they weren't then they'd get -2 points.

Sorry mate, but I had the pleasure of playing OoT on an N64, on the Game Cube and on the Wii - that is IT, no more Zelda OoT for me.

I gave valid arguments for why I do not like those ports, you can agree with them, you can disagree with them but if you want to diss my subjective opinion then go do something more productive because if you don't make sensible arguments while you're at it, I'm not listening.

I'd also like to underline that you "pretend" to defend ports in general while you mention only Zelda and Starfox - Nintendo games that have a huge fanbase. I'm happy for you that you enjoyed them, but that's pure fanboyism if I've ever seen some.

This is a typical case of feasting on your fans nostalgia, I find it a move below the belt and I'm not falling for it. Try again, Ninty Boys, I'll be waiting for a proper Zelda 3DS title.

You're saying not everyone played the game and new players would love to try? Welcome to WiiWare everyone, where OoT can be purchased for a reasonable price! Yay!

EDIT: In all factuality, I'd be far more inclined to buy SMT: DS Overclocked. AT LEAST it has an extra day added to the story, AT LEAST it's a little bit more than what was offered in the original, AT LEAST there's this small molecule of effort put into the game. Not enough to warrant a +1 point, but there's some.

GASP! Can you see the improvement? It's truly magnificent! This it Next Gen alright! Well-worth 13 years of waiting!

And now Resident Evil PSX vs. Resident Evil Game Cube versions, let's look at how the fight with the mutant shark looked like in...

Can you see the slightly different effort curve here?

^ and not everyone has a wii bro, so no access to wiiware. lol

My point stands just because you've played them, not everyone else in the whole flipping world has so it's good for the newer generation to experience this epic game.

I haven't played the other ports you mentioned so I couldn't say much about them nor do I know enough about them, ok?

Y'see, that's the thing - I don't like *overpriced ports*, I enjoy remakes thoroughly. I just draw a clear line between them. It's my personal opinion, I'm not trying to undermine anyone else's opinion, I'm just stating my own and defending it.

If this was some sort of a "3DSWare" title or a Virtual Console one I wouldn't mind all that much. It isn't though - it's a full priced game.

I agree with you for the overpricing stance. :P It's still a lovely game with minor changes, but knowing Nintendo and their greed...

I'm glad we're on the same page - it's a lovely game! I'm not hating on it because it's a "port", I'm hating on it because it's treated like a thorough remake and a new game, and it just isn't. If it was priced similarily to the ports on other systems, or "slightly higher, but not much" since there are "some" improvements then I'd lap it up and say "thank you very much, can I have seconds please?" but it's not - it costs $40 and it's not worth that much.

Guys, whether or not you agree with what someone says a game deserves does not warrant turning the essentials topic into a ports vs remakes topic
I agree with both of you slightly but still, keep it off the essentials.

Thank you for straightening my ways, Self-Proclaimed Mod, but your intervention was not necessary - everything we said was on-topic, we were discussing why I ranked the games the way I ranked them. Please patrol another area of the forums, nothing to see here.

I don't agree, I need to maintain this topic, hard task if you ask. But I want to do this.

My problem, your all posting the heck out of the pages, it is hard for me to fellow everything. It only makes my job harder, sounds egocentric, but you know I am right.

I can't forthcome discussions but yeah. Also, if I am finished with German(Need to learn 50 words for Friday I can't screw it!) if it is not past 10. P.M.(GMT +1) then I will update else tomorrow may be a perfect day for this.

Also if I did not plus Sonic Generations yet, then Sonic Generations +1

Alright, I'll respect your opinion since you're the OP and keep my posts to a healthy minimum next time I'll be "adding grades".

I just figured it'd be in-place to say why I like and dislike certain games and elaborate on that subject. I find "numbers" to be cold and not very informative.

Numbers are not informative :P

Bu I have a nice deal post everything in a spoiler please. Also Foxi, Sorry to tell but I won't count your minus votes in because ports? That's no reason I had no time to read you story, but I am not going to give minu votes to games which are just good, Zelda for example it is NOT just a lazy port man. Music has a new atitude(check Hyrule field theme, BONGO'S FTW!)

Counted all votes now.

I will add them in the main post later.
