Hacking 3ds classic mode and retail pokemon

I just updated my emunand to 7.1 and I am still able to get my 3ds games to work in gateway mode off a memory card. I tried playing my retail Pokemon in classic mode and it asks me to update the firmware to 6.3, is there something I did wrong and if I play, is it going to delete my save file?

So it's a downloaded retail copy of Pokemon? If it's yelling at you about updating, then it sounds like you aren't updated.

I think it is retail. Yes you will need to delete your save file to play it.
Mayby they will find something to solve this in the future.

I'm not really sure how to delete my save file from a retail cardcard. I'm on 7.1 from what it says in settings but asks to update or downgrade to 6.3 it seems. I'm assuming it's not safe to update from the cart?

sounds like your not booting into the EmuNAND or classic mode

Don't think so. Also in 2.0 it isn't promised for online.
You can get on eshop though.

I hold down l to boot into the gateway menu and click classic mode and put my retail pokemon in and I try to play and tempts me to update to 6.3, I am on 7.1 for sure in classic mode tho unless there is some step I'm missing
