The 3DS is already out in Japan and there's already flash carts that do this, and they work. For DS carts it's just a repeat of the DSi's security updates.

Just like the DSi, you do need a DS model that runs the cart in order to apply the update, so this means a DS/Lite, or a DSi (that will run your flash cart).

well its now 3 days away....and i was wondering something....heres my scenario... I currently have a new r4i gold 3ds....ready to go....as well as my dstwo flashed...so my goal is obvious..


heres my fear......

unbox 3ds....
fire up the battery...
my wifi locates the 3ds with the 3ds's "magic wifi finder" lol ...
my wifi updates the 3ds automatically...
the newest update destroys my ability to play any ds roms until a flashcart update...

when i try to run my cart LATER... a evil clown face pops up on my screen and gives me the finger sreaming out...."WINNNNING"

I just noticed, they're saying that use of flash cards will make a/the game unusable. As far as I know, that's not possible right? The card is read-only (except for the saves), so how could it be rendered unusable?

Is not the use of the flashcart literally but is a effect of the use of flashcart cuz the one I read says that when u use a flashcart it get printed in the 3DS' log so when Nintendo see that is when they send u the "update" or when u update ur 3DS it get bricked

The 3ds is available in France and an update is already available (to enable video reading capabilities). We should not have to wait long to see if the rumor is true !

They already had the update in Japan. Nothing happened, flashcarts still work fine even.
