Hi everyone, I'm new to the wii scene and had a quick question to ask someone a bit more knowledgeable on the subject.

I've got a wii sitting here, about to install the Homebrew channel etc., the firmware is currently 3.1E. Should I try and get hold of 3.2 and put it on there or just leave it as it is?

Will it make a noticable difference between them?

Sorry for the noob questions, but any help is greatly appreciated.

I've heard Mario Kart has it.. can't confirm that though.

I think your right mate, I'll get hold of that then. Thanks for the info.

Can I install the Homebrew channel and Backup Launcher etc, then use a backup copy of Mario Kart to update?

Or will I have to upgrade it before it'll allow me to install the Channel etc?

Not too bothered if it wipes it all off when the firmware updates, as I'll be able to whack it straight back on. (hopefully!)

Yes, you can use a backup copy. The backup, homebrew, and other channels won't be touched.

Make sure you get the game in the same region as your wii.

Mario Kart has 3.1, at least PAL version. I also used WiiFit (original) but Wii stayed at version 3.1E. I think 3.2 is only online update. I have a 3.1E Wii and another 3.2E, both work perfectly with HB and backup loaders.

Stay at 3.1E with regular HB, I don't see the point of having latest IOS, unless an original game doesn't work. Keeping 3.1 can even help you recover from semi brick more easily.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've downloaded the semi-brick fix disc, apparently there are some IOS files on there that will update it to 3.2. Anyway, I'm about to start all this off, just bought Zelda

. I'll post back if I run into any problems.

don't forget to install starfall after you install 3.2E - just for extra protection.

Right, all installed and working. I upgraded the firmware to 3.2 using the Semi-Brick Fix Disc IOS's. Thanks for the info along the way guys.

Going to install starfall in a bit, and I have one more question for you...

Does anyone know the specific IOS's etc that I would need to install to get the benefiets of 3.3 without actually upgrading, ie shop channel, mii channel etc?

Thanks in advance,
Tommy.
