Homebrew 2D shooting side scroller games

Can you recommend me, the best 2D run' n gun games for the SNES and the Genesis? (like midnight resistance)

Gunstar Heroes for Genesis

Oh, and for the ease of understanding, the games sub-genre is called "run 'n gun' ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_and_gun )

I'm lookking for those too, Gunstar Heroes is a classic of course and Contra

which is pretty much same thing as Super Probotector. But anyway...

Hmm, a bit off the chart but same idea: Super Smash TV and Zombies Ate My Neighbours. Love both games.

Rolling Thunder 2 on Genesis is one of my favourites. Not tried it on the emus for the DS yet...

sunset riders! although the game is on both the snes and the genesis, get the snes version. it is a lot better.

Genesis:- Gunstar Heroes,Mega Turrican,Alien 3.

Thats what i can think of at the moment!

If only we could get an arcade emulator to run the earlier SNK titles.

Sega MD: Rolling Thunder 2, Contra Hard Corps, Vectorman 1 & 2, Alien Soldier, Mega Turrican (not as good as the C64 or Amiga games), Terminator, Robocop Vs Terminator, Eswat: City Under Siege, Forgotten Worlds.

SNES: Super Star Wars trilogy, Contra 3, Cybernator, Hagane: The Final Conflict.

Not sure what works on DS emulators.

Stargate (too long, and if you miss an item it's bad ending. it was good with cheats)

contra sux, probotector rules! ^^
i wish there was a vertical scrolling probotector as well instead of the mixed scroller only

i'd add super turrican for the snes instead of the md version or turrican 1

edit: gunstart super heroes and astro boy for the gba are also awesome
