Hello! I don't know a thing about 3ds hacking all I know is that there are programs called homebrew, menuhax and browserhax and I watched an installation tutorial and I think I could do it but the guy wrote ''only under 10.3'' so I am not sure if I should hack my 3ds because it's on 10.5 (the latest one) Please help, thanks! :D (also a little newbie guide would be nice!)

@Keretto
How did you "hack" it?

Not trying to be rude, but it is impossible to install CFW or get emuNAND for 10.5

Homebrew isn't a program: it is unsigned software created by the hacking community. Read here for more info:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homebrew_(video_games)

There is a section here about the 3DS and the recent exploits available for it. It also talks a little bit about sysUpdater, etc.

But, as of right now, homebrew is limited to the Homebrew launcher using *hax for 10.5: meaning no CIA's, Custom firmware, etc. It is only available for 9.2 or below (or, If you have 10.3 or below you can downgrade)
:)
It's only 10.3 and under. 10.6 is not 10.3 and under.

Whether you "should" hack it is irrelevant because you *can't* hack it.

Me? I'm on 4.2 sysnand, 10.5 emunand. I haven't even heard of 10.6 being out yet.

If you have 10.6, I don't think any hack is known to work with it yet. If you meant 10.5, homemenuhax 2.2 says it works with 10.5. There is a difference between getting homebrew and fully hacking the 3DS, however. If you just have homemenuhax it can't be used to pirate games.

Edit: Browserhax also works with 10.5.

Oh thanks! This is probably going to be a silly question but what is sysnand and emunand? I have been hearing it alot. And also what are cia's and fbi's and stuff, I really don't get it :D

Sysnand is the actual firmware you have. Emunand is a copy of the firmware that you can run off of your SD card if you hack the 3DS. You can have a sysnand that allows you to hack the machine because it is an older firmware, and an emunand that is the newest firmware (also, anything you do on emunand can't permanently harm your 3DS).

You need sysnand of 9.2 or less to be able to have emunand. 10.3 can be downgraded to 9.2. 10.4-10.5 can only be used for homebrew. I'm not sure if 10.6 is a real thing yet.

A .cia is a program, often a game, that you install on your 3DS (pirated games normally get installed to emunand). "FBI" is a program used to install them. It is named FBI because whoever named it was trying to be funny (since it installs .cia files). One step in hacking your machine is getting FBI or another .cia manager installed.

OH MY GOD BRO! I am on 10.5! :D I must have seen it wrong before! :) I'll check out some tutorials, i hope I can do it without bricking my 3ds.

Seeing that you are new, I will catch you up to speed:

Homebrew with CIA's are only available with version 9.2 as it has a kernel exploit for ARM9, meaning you have "full" access to the system. People who have already updated to higher systems are out of luck...EXCEPT!!! If you are on version 10.3 or below. You can get sysUpdater, a program, to downgrade your sysNAND to 9.2. Therefore, you will have access to a plethora of hackable's: such as Custom firmware, emuNAND, homebrew on the Home Menu (CIA's), etc.

To simplify the difference between emuNAND and sysNAND:

sysNAND is your 3DS system's NAND memory: it contains all of the vital system files and information such as the firmware and boot-up information. It is located on your 3DS's motherboard. EmuNAND is basically an emulated version of the sysNAND ( kinda like playing a game on an emulator rather than the actual system), which is located on a hidden partition of your SD card. With emuNAND installed, your 3DS bow has two options- to boot from sysNAND or emuNAND. Therefore, you can have two completely different firmware versions on your system.

But, you have 10.5, which has patched it
:/

@Keretto, from what I've read from your question, I think it's safe to say that hacking and homebrew are out of your league. I understand that there are people in this topic that are eager to help you, but honestly you seem to have no real concept of what it is or what it does. I'm not trying to be insulting. I would just suggest, before you ask anymore questions or attempt to do anything (which most won't work given your firmware) that you do some research on your own. Look into hacking that has been done with other consoles as well as lurking around here. Get an understanding of what all this stuff is about. Since you don't even know what the term 'homebrew' means I don't think anything these guys tell you will be within your understanding.
