I thought the Wii was going to be pure shit....so I am actually enjoying my Wii.
It is not a revolution however it is fun.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 1 (not 2) was a BLAST for the Wii and the on rails gun play was fantastic

I hated Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine so playing Galaxy I had low expectations however once again I was surprised to find myself getting all 120 stars and even going as far as trying to get the other 120

Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles is freaking great if your a shooter lover or a zombie fanatic....

Trauma Center beats the pants off the DS version and I can NOT wait to get the Co op version!

Games like Excite Truck are still fun for me however the $49.99 price tag is not justifiable...maybe cause I beat it in 2 days on a rental...but I'd still like to own it.

Wii Sports is still fun to play a year later

and I have plenty more to try out like Zach and Wiki which I just bought today (along with RE4...even though I beat the GC and PS2 version)
Games like Metal Slug were horrible due to the use of the controller....imo SMG didn't need the spin option either...a tacky way to incorporate the motion sensor? Sonic and Mario Olympics blew, Eilbits was pretty meh,

The bottom like.... sure the Wii is not revolutionary.... but it is a cheap console and is entertaining me at the moment...even over my 360 games and my new copy of UT2K7 for the PC...christ I took a break from Umbrella Chronicles to beat Sonic 2 and Pokemon Snap this weekend....what can I say...my little white box has a firm hold on me right now

Wii still selling out in uk and also NDS

I preorded my wii last year and haven't been playing much
it was fun for awhile then turned out to be very bored after...

yah WeaponXxX, excite truck doesn't get enough love
I bought a copy with my Wii and I love it
it could use more tracks and options, but I don't mind, around a month before nintendo unveiled excite truck I was hoping they'd make an arcadish rally type game some day

Just asking
but didnt the PS1 and also the  PS2 have a lot of shovelware and PS2?
I dont think tat affected its success

Yeah they had heaps of shovelware. But they also had lots of great games.

The wii will be successful even if it doesn't get many more good games.

I think the shovelware has been noted because it is selling to all the casual gamers than have picked up the Wii, whereas no other console has had so much casual pickup within it first year (ie. the PS2 might have quite a few casual players, but it was a while till the system has singstar and buzz). This and the usual first year lack of big titles has really made this stand out. Even with the PS2 now, sure there might be 50+ great games that make the system awesome, but there are still 1500 mediocre titles on shelves. Give the Wii another few years on the market, then we can start deciding if it really lacks quality titles or not.

Also, agreed on Excite Truck being awesome. I am hoping Nitrobike delivers something even better or that we can hope for a sequel.

I agree with most people here, The Wii is no revolution. The motion detection does not deliver and in most cases feels like a late addition to games. A few games make good use of the Wiimote but these are few and far between.

Overall I have been disapointed and as with a great many of you, my Wii gathers dust for a good few months and only gets dusted off to play the very few good releases when they come out.

One year in.... ummm I would sell it - I have tried to before, modding it basically saved the damn thing from the bin! Mario Kart better deliver but if it controls anything like Need for Speed then screw it, I should bin the thing ASAP. SMG was awsome, that was the only high point for me but I do agree that motion controls could have been left out with no impact to game play at all.

Nintendo should just rename their consoles to "M/MK/SMB Machines" (Mario/Mario Kart/Super Smash Bros Machines) its the only thing they do well and the only thing that keep fans buying thier heap of junk consoles...I do fall in to this bracket

Heres to another long wait for the next Super Mario game(and most likely thier next console!)

But credit where credits due...What a marketing ploy! It Worked very well, Nintendo have sold heaps of Wii's when only 18 months ago the NGC and its games were stripped from all UK game stores shelves, now it's back with slighty better GFX and a gimicky controller - no one else but Nintendo could have pulled that off!

worst Nintendo console yet. Wiimote controls have still not been justified in anything i've played ( although the aiming in RE4 was nice ). The lack of online is really disappointing and the preponderance of trash is really irritating.

So far, I've really only enjoyed 3 games on my Wii:

Mario Galaxy
Twilight Princess
Resident Evil 4

lo and behold... 2 are also GC games.

Metroid Prime was more of the same.
Super Paper Mario talked my ear off.
Excite truck was imprecise.
Kororinpa was ruined by imprecise control.
Sonic and the secret rings was abysmal.
My grandma loves Wii sports but she also love general hospital. The "fun" is over in 10 minutes.
Umbrella chronicles is lackluster and outmoded.
trauma center... that was ok, but also available on DS much earlier.
Cooking mama was beyond awful, and imprecise ( cracking the egg is a special kind of hell ),
dewy's adventure ruined a great premise with terrible control,
elebits was creative but ultimately a pointless tech demo,
and tony hawk's downhill jam suffered from the same terrible control as the rest of the lot.

now that i reread the list, the wii has probably contributed to making good games bad.

meanwhile, xbox 360 has a fantastic year. that said, i used the wii a lot more than the ps3 =]

Excite truck is easily one of the best wii games. What let it down big time for me was once I'd finished it, that was it. I wanted online play. Maybe we'll get that with excite truck 2.

The XBox 360 has had over 2 years.

Cmon its just been a year for a Wii. Initial games for wii will hav issues coz the developers are not makin games on a controller like the gamepad like for the XBox360. Its been around for years and the developers know which buttons are the best for each action. When developin on the Wii u have to consider the controllin scheme also. Most of the Wii games hav the poor use of Wii controls problems. You come up wit the great idea for a game u have to also consider how to implement it for the Wii controls. How u do it wil make or break the game.

I am not takin graphics into account coz for me i dont consider superior graphics a key factor to a fun game. But if u know a console is capable of better graphics and u dont make use of it is also another thing.

This is just my opinion, I may be wrong also

Girlfriend got me my wii for valentines day, and I loved it from day 1.

Twilight Princess was great after my hatred of WindWaker.

Mario Galaxy is close to being the best game I've played (I've been a console owner for 16 years now).

RE4 was great as I didn't play it on GC.

Smooth Moves was cool.
etc. really.

I think it's an excellent console - hopefully it will keep up with demand better and the online system improves.

I'm also really excited about PES.

Now that I have both a 360 and a Wii, I can give a somewhat fairer comparison.

To be honest, unless you buy Live, the 360 is worthless IMO. I only enjoy it because I can play online with my friends and have a really deep interaction experience. Almost like they're there but not. That being said, single player games on Wii like Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Excite Truck, Zack and Wiki, Red Steel, and Medal of Honor(Vanguard), are all played to death by me. People will probably shoot down most of those games, but I dunno, these motion controls made it much more interesting to play games, even if thee feel a bit rushed I still prefer them over the traditional analog/pad control

I have an unmodded wii, so I only have 3 games: Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8, Super Mario Galaxy. Oh w8 I have 3.5 games- I also have Wii Sports.

Here's how I sum it up:
-Online gameplay: Nintendo needs to make it more frequent, it has not been in a ton of games like I expected
-VC: never actually bought anything there, but don't really want to (unless Super Smash Bros. comes XD)
-Wii channels: wtf, useless and pointless (like that stupid poll channel)
-Super Paper Mario: a Paper Mario title is PURE WIN >.< even though this one is completely different from the other 2. I don't know which is better, this or the GC Paper Mario, cuz they're in completely different genres.
-Mario Party 8= a big NO-NO. Nintendo needs to go back to making all the stages like the classic ones where you are on a huge, complex board and try to get to the star, not like those 2 stages on MP8 that are one-way, pay 50 coins for a star. WHY NINTENDO WHY?
cry.gif
(I really regret paying $50 for this

)
-Wii Sports= I can see why they would include this w/ the Wii Console. It barely even deserves to be a game, only ONE WAY to play each game, barely any variety whatsoever, fun for a week, then it collects dust
-Super Mario Galaxy= Pretty kickass, but not as amazing as some think. Really fun though, and innovative, and has great value and lasting appeal, takes awhile to beat, like any other mario platformer. I've just started on this one though...

Overall, it was OK, but Nintendo needs to do better in 2008 or the Wii will fall behind. Its few quality titles are really good but quality needs some quantity to back it up.
