ROM Hack Translating Tutorial or Something?

any file on a computer, a rom, a text file, anything, is just a list of binary numbers called bits. group them into groups of eight and you get bytes. Represent each byte as a hexadecimal number, and that's what hex is. this is how computers store information. A table is basically a list that...

ROM Hack Negima!? Chou Mahora Taisen Chuu (fantranslation)

If you're extracting from jjewel's packfile, type EDCC for the first one, then hit enter. then type 1321AC0 then hit enter and then the rest will be the same. if you're using the original packfile, use EDCC and then 131FF48.

i can easily make it output the two text fpak files. it already does them separately and repacks everything like that anyway, so i just need to add a line or two to it.... edit: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?0cttzwgmujn the only difference is that the decompression offsets are being...

i won't be able to download that from home (slow internet), so i probably can't do much until after the weekend... i changed the constants in the tool as per jjewel's request. *snip* messed up the extraction changes a bit...i'll go fix those while i work on the pointer resetting method...

ROM Hack Negima!? Chou Mahora Taisen Chuu (fantranslation)

i tried out your file and everything worked fine as far as i could see...it was compressed, it was inserted and all the pointers were reset perfectly... that could be the weird compression differences. could you first try just running decompress, extract, insert and recompress in succession...

just checking, but it is freezing at FPAK20053832_77, right? it extracts wrong from that file apparnetly, since it uses a different format. i made the search parameters more general. it hsould work now. at least, it did for me doing the same change. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zzxd4wggd3d

fixed the problem jjewwel found. i haven't tested whether the strange compression will make the rom crash or anything, but when i ran all four methods, it produced a file same size, same pointers as the original, the only difference being the differing compression, and things were the right size...

2 problems. One is with LZ77 compression. WHen i recompress the files with the method from nintenlord's lz77.lib, some of the values are different, i've noticed, like some 40s are coming out as 2C or something. It extracts to the same thing, but i'm not sure whether the different LZ77 changes...

ROM Hack Hakuouki DS Translation Project - Hacker Needed

Let's say we have a file with 10 bytes: 11 22 33 44 55 66 77 88 99 AA a pointer is basically the index of the information we want in the set of 10 bytes so if the pointer is something like 10, we return AA, if it's 6, we return 66. If you replace the byte 55 with 12 34, then the file will look...

ok, then, i'm almost done the repacking method, then i need to test and double check everything. just debugging some of my integer to pointer byte stuff, but the extractor and inserter are working fine now. i'll be a bit busy this week, but i promise the whole tool will be done by next weekend...

ROM Hack Decompressing .pak files inside NDS Rom

CT2 can do it with LZ77 search, and then bulk LZ77 decompress. catch is, there are more than 10,000 files in there. I'm done the extractor to get all the battle and dialogue text out of it and am just touching up the inserter now. once i figure out a good way to turn single byte ascii into...

so...i can't hack and slash or cheat my way by brute forcing this one. there's nothing consistent and unique enough before each text string. i'm sure the top half of the file has pointers all over it, but i can't seem to find them/not enough time to stare at it long enough to find them. There...

works like a dream. it's even prettier than before . Thanks a lot, darth! oh, and all of darth's stuff is on his mediafire channel. if the rom's too big to test on your sd card, trying unpacking the rom with dslazy, deleting all the sound files, then repacking it. that worked with ouran, so it...

ROM Hack Hakuouki DS Translation Project - Hacker Needed

does the dslazy extract things differently from CT2? I'll try that out later and see if it works, because i tried Darth's batch lz77 on the dslazy extracted stuff, and i keptgetting errors.

wait, the DAT@ is LZ compressed? i tried running it through nintenlord' tool and ct2, but it didn't give me anything... i tried deleting all the .ahx voice files and repacking it (effectively reducing the rom size by 400 mB. yup, that's 400 mb of voice and nothing else...the rest is all...

Translation Zoids Saga DS: English Translation

Don't use the inserter. It only deals in single-byte text because i had thought there would be a way to add a single-byte font. Apparently VWF just decreases the tile size of the font. If you do finish translating the .txt files, though, send them to me, and i'll figure out what i need to insert...

ROM Hack Hakuouki DS Translation Project - Hacker Needed

took a quick look at the rom...which i s 512 mB, just so you know, took like, ten minutes just to load in the dslazy... There's quite a bit of random text in the arm9, but i can't quite tell what it is, though i'm sure it's not the dialogue script. There is text in emaki.bin in data/emaki/...

ROM Hack Negima!? Chou Mahora Taisen Chuu (fantranslation)

If those two files are all that i need to worry about, then that simplifies things a lot. In that case, I won't bother with the graphics and stuff, and just focus on figuring out how to insert and extract the dialogue text. With luck, the only pointers i will need to care about are the ones in...
