ROM Hack Golden Sun hacking goodness (Warning:lots of pictures & video)

Happy 2nd Anniversary Golden Sun: TLA Editor Two years ago today the first version of the Golden Sun: TLA Editor was sent out into the world, here's a video to celebrate the anniversary and show what's in store for the future. If it weren't for the fact that my video editor didn't decide to...

ROM Hack Golden Sun hacking goodness (Warning:lots of pictures & video)

That's correct, I did all of the hacking, and audio conversion work for the voice acting hack as well. That's the plan, FAST6191.

I appreciate all the support, thanks everyone. Here's a new video, it's a simple example, but I finally managed to insert a custom map.

ROM Hack GBA "Sappy" sound engine information by Bregalad

I completely forgot about this utility I made a while back. GBA_AudioRipper.zip (24.9KB) - If you drag & drop a ROM file on it, it'll dump the audio data from the ROM to "output.gbas" which can be played by my (never completed)GBAjukebox Adobe AIR application. If you drag 2 ROM files onto it...

ROM Hack GBA "Sappy" sound engine information by Bregalad

Very nice, it all looks correct to what I'd discovered on my own, and even contains information I didn't know. I should mention, however, that the version of Sappy that Camelot (the company that created Golden Sun) uses has a couple additions to it, so even though this is a fairly complete...

ROM Hack Golden Sun hacking goodness (Warning:lots of pictures & video)

Been a while since I came by here, I would be the guy behind the Golden Sun: The Lost Age Editor. So letsee... Where to start.... Since version 0.2 of the editor a number of new features have been worked on. I'd finally cracked the issues in the way of a text editor, so that'll make it into...

ROM Hack Golden Sun TLA editor & GBA audio data ripping tool

Time for another update on a cool new feature of the editor. The more I work on the Data Browser feature the more I come to love it, It is without a doubt my favorite feature of the editor so far. What is it doing here you ask? Quite amazingly, it's scanned through a section of the games...

ROM Hack Golden Sun TLA editor & GBA audio data ripping tool

It's just counting the space that's available in the ROM at it's current size, of course you'll be able to expand the ROM to a full 32MB. It would make sense to have it count that extra possible space as well though, wouldn't it?

ROM Hack Golden Sun TLA editor & GBA audio data ripping tool

How about an update on what I've been working on so you all know the editor isn't dead yet. The way some of GS TLA's data is arranged is very peculiar, yet very helpful at the same time. At the end of the ROM file there is a large array containing various types of data ranging from graphics...

    Golden Sun Voice Acting Experiment

An experiment in adding voice acting to a GBA game, this patch adds voice acting to the prologue during the storm in the beginning of the original Golden Sun game.

Oh, you know I'm gonna try to jump on this game's code a lot quicker than it took me to get to TLA.

ROM Hack Golden Sun: Voice Acting ROM hack experiment

Thanks, coolbho3000, only during the storm at the beginning of the game has voice acting. The audio clips aren't compressed, so yeah it's gonna increase the file size quite a bit. Since the maximum size of a GBA game is 32MB, I figure around maybe 1/16th, probably less, of the dialogue in the...

ROM Hack Golden Sun: Voice Acting ROM hack experiment

Just a little something I've been working on the side of my Golden Sun: The Lost Age editor. I figured it'd be better if I went ahead and revealed this before I shipped off for Air Force Boot Camp tomorrow, even though it's not completely done. I won't be able to respond to most of your...

ROM Hack Golden Sun TLA editor & GBA audio data ripping tool

There you go, I still need to do a lot of back end work before I can actually turn the text viewer into an editor, but at least I've got the compression algorithm now. I tested it on a few lines from the game, and I think my algorithm actually shaved a couple bits off of some of them. Of course...

ROM Hack Golden Sun TLA editor & GBA audio data ripping tool

So far I've only made stuff editable that isn't compressed, and added viewers for stuff that is. The goal is to eventually make everything editable.

ROM Hack Golden Sun TLA editor & GBA audio data ripping tool

Ack... I missed a rather bad error when I released it earlier today. If you downloaded it before 9:00 EST, you should download it again. The error caused ROMs that were saved to become nearly 130MB large sometimes. If you had that problem you can fix the ROM by just trimming off the extra...
