Overpowering the Competition

One of the most prominent brands of gaming chairs out there is OPSEAT, and their Master and Grandmaster line of seats. Thanks to the team at OPSEAT, GBAtemp was provided with a review sample to try out in the form of their $249.99 Master series chair.

For those that tend to sit at their PC for long amounts of time, either playing games, or browsing the internet, having a place to comfortably do so from is incredibly important. Personally, I had been using a basic Ikea office chair prior to this, and had noticed I would have do deal with back pain commonly, which was standing in the way of me being able to comfortably write and game. So when the 60lb/27kg box arrived at my doorstep, I was very excited to open it up and see if this chair would solve my problems.

Neatly packed in the box was the chair, split into several sections to assemble. An instruction pamphlet was tucked carefully into the seat portion, wordlessly explaining how to put the chair together piece by piece. Assembly was quite simple, with the only relatively difficult part pertaining to lifting the heavier pieces to fit atop each other for the last step. Once the chair was built, it was easy to see just how striking it looks. There's eleven different colors the Master Series comes in; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, light blue, pink, purple, white, black, and gray, meaning you'll be easily be able to get one in a color that suits the room you'll be putting it in. The one featured in this review is the white model, which is mostly black, with highlights of white along the edges and top. Visually, it looks professional, and very much like a "gaming" styled chair, without going too far into the obnoxious range that many other chairs fall into.

As far as features go, there's a lumbar support pillow, a head pillow, wide armrests that tilt inwards and outwards, and extend and retract for comfort. You can also lean back all the way and lay flat by using the lever on the right side of the seat to adjust to your preferred level. When you stand up, the chair almost rises with you, with a very subtle lift, which is a nice touch. OPSEAT's product is made from synthetic leather, which feels soft, but also sturdy enough to take some wear and tear. The stitching is very well done, which really helps the chair look as good as it does.

After two weeks straight of usage, the Master Series gaming chair has far surpassed my expectations. Living in a very hot area as Texas usually means that chairs, especially leather ones, can get disgustingly hot, however, even when the A/C was turned off to test how hot the chair got, the perforations in the back kept the chair cool and comfortable, even in very warm conditions. I can't praise this chair enough, because even when trying to find flaws with it, there's nothing that stands out. I tend to sit cross-legged and at a tilt; something generally uncomfortable in most chairs, but here, I felt like I was sitting in a luxurious recliner, and not a gaming chair. OPSEAT appear to commonly have the Master Series on sale for only $199.99 on their site, which, if you're willing to invest in a comfortable chair with a fantastic build quality, is more than worth the price.

Overall

When one buys a gaming rig, and sets up their space to accommodate it, they tend to focus on the hardware aspect of things, which means sometimes people forget to pay attention to one of the most integral pieces to their setup: the chair. A chair is the centerpiece to your entire gaming experience, and if you want to play your games in comfort, you'll want to have the best chair you can get for your money. If you're looking for the best, then look no further than OPSEAT.
What do you mean, it fits perfectly with my gaming table, gaming slippers, gaming light and gaming toilet seat

The culture of manufacturing "gaming" products grinds my gears sometimes. I was very happy with my Logitech g400 mouse for a long while. When it finally kicked the bucket I searched for a new one. The only one they sold now was a Logitech g400s, the "gaming" variant. This version has stupid looking decals plastered all of it but was otherwise mostly the same mouse. I decided to try a different mouse, albeit being a Razer Deathadder because I found it on clearance but even so, the Deathadder at least is just a solid black color with no crazy designs.

As for the chair, I'll still with my office chair I bought for around $50. I never feel uncomfortable after playing for a long while so it doesn't seem to hurt me. When my chair eventually kicks the bucket, if it ever does, I'll look into chairs a bit more but these types of chairs, imo, are just to crank out to have streamers using them to get other people to buy them as well.

Hmm...when compared to the last chair, this at least comes in colors that don't embarrass the one in the chair (have fun teleworking from home and having an official videochat with your boss in that last one :P).

I gotta admit: for the price, I feel kind of jealous (it's more expensive than the ikea office chair I recently bought, but not much...and this certainly looks like it'll feel even better). And the adjustable cushion for the lower back is a much better feature than the extra legspace the other one had.

But still...I'd still hold out for a model with cupholder, a way to hang headphones on the back, USB port in the seat (for charging the controller while playing) and/or a sort of rumbling feature (okay, the last one is a bit daydreaming). Isn't there a market for that?

@Sonic Angel Knight : it's obviously "OPS EAT"...as to indicate that it'll be heavily used by operators eating at their desk. :tpi:

@Jiehfeng : I hear you, mate. It's something about an industry coining the phrase "gamer identity" as a means to push products (and incidentally: making less self secure gamers even less self secure when they don't buy their stuff). But I gotta admit that in this case, if you take the "it's for gaming!!!" marketing out of the equation, you still got a decent looking chair (heh...even the other colors seem like they'll fit with the furniture of someone having an actual social life).

Great review @Chary ! I just want to add, that we do offer support 7 days a week, from 9am to 5pm EST via SMS, phone, or email! You can even DM us on Twitter or Facebook if you'd prefer and get the same level of support!

All chairs do come with a 1 year limited warranty, so if you do happen to get a support pillow like Chary did that isn't quite right. Please do not hesitate to contact us, and we would be more than happy to replace it!

But even for that, I think gaming chairs look hideous, at least to me.
Something about them looks so weird to me. The shapes especially. It has too many corners and ridges for my taste, and makes it look like something out of a sci-fi movie but an abnormal looking something that a sci-fi character would sit on. This is of course my opinion of it lol.

The sci-fi look is part of the appeal. It looks like something out of Neon Genesis: Evangelion

I was about to comment that my cats would just shred this thing up and that's why I always get cheapos from Craigslist for my chair, but the arm rests have no fabric and the headrest looks too narrow for them to get on top of. So it might actually work. $200 is a very reasonable price for a new office chair too.

Or $189 if you use the gbatemp link in the review ;)

Gaming chairs are usually quite comfortable.
Mine sure was, and sure it will be.
But fuck the weather, it is so hot I think of (synthetic) leather and I get a heatstroke.
Can't take it anymore, gotta get an AC somewhere, hell, should convince the boss of installing one in the office also.

Due to our chairs using Perforated leather they actually don't get hot at all! If you check out the second to last paragraph you can see that the lovely @Chary tested this out in the middle of a Texas summer!

Oh, then that is a great advantage over mine!
Hell, I can barely use mine!

I always thought that "gaming" products were so obnoxious, but that's what I like about this chair. It skirts that line to still look fairly normal, but it has that definite, as x65 said, sci-fi look.

If you have a cat that can stand on the top of the headrest, then honestly, you should be signing the cat up for some circus acts, hahaha.

In regards to the score being a 9.5; this isn't a video game review. The chair hits everything it needs to. Great material for the type of product we're looking at (if you're expecting fine European leather with suede armrests, you're probably going to have to up the budget lol) great comfortability, solid price range in the under 200 mark, and the chair seems like it could take some solid daily usage for the years to come.

I'm usually not one to be hyperbolic about products (I think my highest ever scored review prior to this was an 8.9?) but the second I sat in this chair after using my "professional" ikea chair, I knew. I was like, yeah, this chair is awesome. I'd much rather go back in time and spent the 189 on this rather than 130 on a way inferior chair.

If I get that pillow replaced for ya, will you bump us up to a perfect score? ;)

Hmmm... That, i don't agree on. Tastes differ, obviously. I mean... Yeah, it kind of looks like it seats a space villain, but i would consider that a plus.
... Okay, now i just want to play something like plague inc in that chair and stroke a kitten in my lap while murmuring "no, world...i want you to die". B-)

can you remove the armrests ? it looks like you can unscrew them.
I don't like armrests, it feels too narrow and annoying having things on my sides, and could be annoying with my furniture around me (hitting into the desk, etc.) .
I also like coming from the side to sit, instead of being well centered and rotating the chair to sit then rotate it back to face the computer.
I'm kind of annoying, right?

If i had a stable source of income, I'd entirely buy this.
In other words, it looks very nice and comfy!

If you unbolt the bottom of the armrests they can come off

Can anyone post actual measurements from a real chair for the arm height above the seat cushion? The height of the arm can dictate a comfortable position for gamers with shoulder, arm, or tendon issues. Are the arms themsevles "height" adjustable on this $250 chair?

I don't know the actual arm measurements, but I just tried raising the armrests, and I can. You can raise them a fair good amount from where they start, and lock them at a height you desire.

The arms themselves are height adjustable, at their lowest position they are roughly 26 inches from the floor, with 2 inches in height adjustment
