Mondo brings Kratos straight from 2018’s God of War to your action figure collection. The company has restocked its $235 exclusive collectible and we’ll take a look at it in this review.
Coming in a box adorned with motifs familiar with the franchise are the following:
- Kratos ⅙ scale action figure
- Regular Portrait
- Rage Portrait
- Mimir
- Leviathan Axe
- Blades of Chaos w/ chains x2
- Shield (folded)
- Shield (unfolded)
- Knife and Sheath
- Bag of Ash
- Molded satchel pack
- 6 Different Interchangeable Hands
- Figure Stand
Specifics of the action figure itself are as follows:
- Height:13"
- Material: PVC, ABS, Fabric
- Weight: 5 lbs
As with other Mondo products, the quality of this Kratos figure is a premium one. Zeus’ demigod son is intricately depicted from his worn out tattoos through his bulging veins of his buff biceps to the expression on the ‘Rage Portrait’ head. The level of detail is simply incredible and vividly portrayed. This goes beyond the anatomical intricacies as much attention has been paid in crafting Kratos’ overalls. While the figure’s body is made of a combination for PVC and ABS, that add some heft and sturdiness to the collectible, Kratos’ belt, pants, apron and petruges are made of real fabric. Combined, these really make the figure feel like it came straight out of your screen to your table.
With its 6 interchangeable hands, accessories like the iconic Blades of Chaos and 25+ points of articulation, you can get creative with different poses while displaying this Kratos figure. The included accessories are also as detailed as the main figure and it is evident that much attention has been paid in designing them too. For instance, the Blades of Chaos come integrated with chains that you can leave dangling like in-game Kratos prior to engaging in battles and his knife comes with a dedicated sheath that fits the accessory snuggly.
Also included is a figure stand to help you keep your figure upright. However, I wish the stand included a clamp to better hold Kratos and this inclusion would also enable for more poses to be possible. And while much attention was paid in the looks and design of the accessories, the shield is rather awkward to get the figure to hold as its centre is magnetic but there are no magnetic attachment points on the figure itself. The retracted shield is also magnetic so the best way to get the figure to hold it is to create a makeshift magnetic handle with the two shields.
Another gripe I’ve had with the figure is that Kratos might be too buff for his own good. His trapezius muscle limits the movement of his left arm while the right arm is further limited by the shoulder armour.
While the figure could have used some improvements, the level of detail of Kratos and of the included accessories as well as considering the product’s overall quality does justice to the franchise. If you’re a fan of the God of War series or a collector of action figures, Mondo’s Kratos 1/6 Scale Figure is worth looking into.
Verdict
- Level of detail in Kratos figure and included accessories
