  • I know most intellectuals are pro nuclear power and all that. But I know that failure is inevitable. People say that the science has come far and they are now far safer to generate electricity, but I know humans enough to know that no scientist or genius is perfect. There is bound to be something missing or wrong at some point as proven in history forever. It's just too destructive to have trust in it.

Reminds me of a video I recently watched of a Tesla Car's screen showing the AI used. It was driving behind a truck carrying a bunch of traffic lights at the back, a scenario no programmer could've seen coming, and the AI was going bonkers. In conclusion, you can't trust humans, and you definitely shouldn't trust them with something as dangerous as nuclear.

"one mistake"? Are safety factors and failsafes not a thing? Do also look up how Thorium reactors work.
As an app developer, I can now understand how bugs in general are very possible and likely. The main cause? You just don't give a shit. You have already coded in so much, the application is so large, you just focus on what you need to do now. When it comes to checking the result, you never really are thorough cause you can't be assed to look into every single thing. Now I know how important testers are.

Or to make it even better, have all sort of checks and fallbacks for invalid data, until you realise it should never happen in the first place

Build your data properly, and the bug wouldn't happen, and so you don't need to waste CPU cycles to test every possible condition if you know for sure the data you constructed IS exactly what should be expected, and not junk that could technically be encountered, but it definitely shouldn't even be possible unless you really went all the way to make it happen at all, haha!

I can provide the best example of this observation: see my recent status updates, where I have been working on writing a music driver.
More I get improvements done, and more I realise I have a lot of redundancy that shouldn't even be there, simply because I know I should never have invalid data in the first place.
The only way I can install Sony and Nintendo apps on my Android phone is through APK websites, they're not in my country Play Store. And I'm thankful for that option, it's pretty cool.
Man for Google having some of the largest functioning servers in the world, they sure are slow in Zipping small files off of Drive.

You know how (some) online storage providers charge per IOps as well as space and bandwidth? Google's dirty little secret is that they keep your stuff on a 1 IOps drive. Costs them less, but any disk-intensive operation takes ages.

This may or may not have been a joke.

It's almost as if they don't know the meaning of "zip".
You know how you revisit that game you put down months ago to continue playing where you left off, but you don't know what the hell to do cause you have no idea about anything anymore? Yeah that's very relatable even in programming. You come back to your program, and you spend most of your time trying to figure out what the hell did you do to get all that working so you can modify it. And it's way more painful.
Ever since Edgerunners came out I'm seeing Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay videos pop up in the recommended.

It apparently has had a massive impact on sales and player count of the game.

    Wow, impressive.
Tmw you're searching for a technical solution but then the article or video says: "Method 1"... Shit. You know none of that is gonna work.

Why? Can't it work because there are multiple methods suggested?

In my experience, whenever a technical issue has multiple solutions involved, it is too broad and unspecific. When I come across such articles I always try to search more and find single solutions, they're usually the right one.

Articles with multiple solutions usually give the most generic 'solutions' for an issue that's unrelated. Like try clearing cache, try turning it off and on, etc.

    Understand it now.
Some of these articles seem to be auto-generated BS. I've seen a lot of them when searching for "How to install Magisk?"
Pseudo blog entries with multiple methods exists for virtually any device -- simulating somebody actually wrote some pages just for the one thing in your hands.
I can't believe it but I love my new Macbook Air. It's just so handy and I didn't realize I would enjoy using MacOS. It's a million times more smoother than Windows (though I still prefer Windows due to functionality and technicality). My only huge gripe is the non-upgradeable storage. I've already used it up, I need more important programs on this...
We have high speed SSDs but all new technology is still no match for a large quantity of small files no matter the speed. Hopefully that's something that gets substantially better in the future.
I never use the Search button in Windows 11, it's so useless cause opening the Start menu and typing is literally the same thing lol.

Same here. I even disabled the button because its so useless, along with some others I don't use:

I assigned 500GB of my SSD to the C drive, and just a few months later it is still not enough! Argh. :rofl2:
