Alright, so I am honestly stumped with this. I think I'm doing everything correctly, but it's still not working so obviously I'm still screwing something up.

This is the story. Initially, I used ReiNX on firmware 6.0.1 for a long time because I was too lazy to upgrade and nothing was broken. Today, I got a new fancy 256gb SD card, so I decided to upgrade all my firmware while I was transferring everything over.

First, I used h2testw to ensure my SD card was good. No issues there. I copied everything over and tested it in my switch, and everything was good.

Next, I used sdsetup to download all the files for Kosmos. I realize this was a mistake, and I did later download the CFW files directly from the repository later, as you will see. Regardless, I downloaded the files and put them on my SD card, and that seemed to work too. Kosmos booted fine, I didn't test any games at this point because I didn't think to.

Then, I used ChoiDujourNX to upgrade my firmware to 7.0.1 as my switch is banned. I didn't go to 8.0.1 because I wasn't able to find anything saying whether Kosmos supported it or not, and I wanted to be safe. The software update went through fine. I did back up my old nand and I haven't yet burned the fuses, so if necessary I can downgrade.

Next, since I had this fancy new big SD card, I decided to rip some of my cartridge games and install them. I used lockpick and lockpickRCM to get my keys, used gcdumptool to copy my cartridges and convert to nsp, and then used goldleaf (the nro version, not the nsp, in case that matters) to install them.

I did this with all my games. Oddly, only one worked out of the box. Breath of the Wild worked great, but when I try to launch Super Smash Bros, Splatoon 2 or Fate Extella, I get a message saying the game is corrupted. If I try to load them with ReiNX, they work fine.

I was quite perplexed by this. I did some research, and learned that sdsetup kinda sucks. I then updated kosmos and installed all the sigpatches, but it still didn't work. I deleted ReiNX off my SD card in case there was some sort of weird conflict, but that did nothing either. I tried ripping and installing my games again but that also didn't work. However, I installed the goldleaf nsp as a test and it works fine, and if I run any games off the cartridges those also work.

I looked around some more and saw that there was some issue in Kosmos regarding unsigned save files? I think at least, I don't remember where I saw it. Either way, I saw no harm in trying, so I deleted my save file in Smash (after backing it up with checkpoint) and reinstalled. No bueno. Bear in mind that Breath of the Wild still worked, save file and all.

I don't know why BOTW works. The main difference between it and my other games is that it is the only game I owned from before I hacked my switch, and consequently it is the only game I owned and played before I was banned. It is the only game which I installed updates for, as well.

So, now I have no clue why I can't run any of my ripped games, and here I turn to you all. In summary, I upgraded everything on my switch, and ripped all my games from cartridge to nsp. None of them worked save for BOTW. They worked fine in ReiNX. I would rather stay with Kosmos if possible, because it has a lot of features I quite like. I know the dumps are probably good because they work in ReiNX, and I know that sigpatching isn't the issue because BOTW and homebrew apps are able to launch fine. I have no clue what else this could be. I would appreciate it if I could get some help with this.

Take your old SD, wipe it clean, set it up fresh with new files of what you need. Try dumping and installing. If it works then you know theres something on your bigger SD causing problems and you can start looking there.

Use fuse-primary. (payloads > fuse-primary)

After that, boot any of the 'corrupted' games. Let the check go through the end, and it will work again. But if you boot through Kosmos payload, they'll say it's corrupted again. So either keep using fuse-primary or make better dumps :)

My guess would be to use the stock atmosphere without the kosmos bundle.
get it from github here https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/releases/tag/0.8.10
and the Sig patches from here
https://gbatemp.net/threads/i-heard-that-you-guys-need-some-sweet-patches-for-atmosphere.521164/
I can confirm they do work even on fw 8.0.1
As kafluke said try to format that SD card of yours and start back from square one.
perhaps you should try a .NSP game that you might get somewhere rather then trying your dumped games.
side note, use fuse primary. bin not hekate or kosmos.

Those steps will work for sure (clean atmo etc).

But if he wants to keep his setup because of lazyness, or just want to keep Kosmos stuff etc, he may try to boot what he has with fuse-primary. It's a known kosmos / hekate issue rn (not really an issue, more of a choice)

Thank you all for the replies, for now I am backing up my SD card just in case before just trying to boot with fusee-primary. If that doesn't work I'll try starting fresh with a new install of Kosmos or Atmosphere. I'll follow up when I have something working. Also, what are the differences between using the normal setup that comes with Kosmos and using fusee-primary? Is there anything I have to be careful of?

Honestly it doesn't take much effort just to push a .bin payload. with that said he can chainload fuse primary afterwards he pushes the hekate payload if he desires to keep the kosmos package on his SD.

Not really. They add some stuff that might be extra useful or not useful at all (like hot loading sysmodules).

If fuse-primary don't work, try clean Atmo in a formated SD.

I use all possible configurations of cfw's, and Kosmos is my main config because of hot loading sysmodules (it's important for me to do that, and it kinda breaks in fuse primary)

so yeah, there's a case for each user :)

(though you said most cases, and is probably right)

Oh also, sdsetup doesnt “kinda suck”

Thanks again for the help. I just finished wiping the sd card and installing a fresh copy of regular atmosphere and it works perfectly thus far. I have restored my saves using checkpoint and reinstalled my rips and they boot without issue. I'd call this issue solved.
