Final Fantasy XV gets update on PC, adds online features.

ffxv.jpg
A new, 1.8 GB update just hit the PC version of Final Fantasy XV which, in addition to providing various bugfixes, also brings a list of new online-centric features to the game. Among the most notable features is the ability to change Noctis's appearance by speaking to a crow named "Avatara" behind Takka's Pit Stop in-game. This allows players to use a female version of the protagonist, if they so choose, with Noctis's appearance being easily reset at any time through the main menu.

Additionally, there are now two types of floating crystals that will appear, blue and in orange, which represent "Official Treasures" and "User Treasures" respectively. Official Treasures are limited time event items which give a lottery ticket of sorts when found. Once the event is finished, winning numbers will be announced, and players with matching number sequences on their tickets will win prizes, with even losing participants receiving a small reward. These can be picked up once every day for which the event is active, but the location will change each time it's collected. In contrast, User Treasures are dropped by players in-game for others to find. If found, both the finder and the one who dropped it will be rewarded with an identical item, the value of which will be determined by how much time has passed between setting and finding and a rewards table. Only one User Treasure may be placed by a single player in one day.

Finally, the game adds the ability to share photos tied to the location at which they were shot. These shared photos can be rated by other users, with the original photographer receiving a reward based on how their pictures were rated. Rewards for this include unlocking clothing options for the new appearance change feature mentioned above. The game allows 10 photos to be shared at once, and sharing more simply erases the oldest to make room.

Balloon World, is that you?

Exactly my thought

Or just start from scratch. A new game, hire a decent, proper writter. If they want to talk of war, someone who actually understands motivations and implications of war. If they want to talk about human relationships, someone who has the tact to actually portray believable relationships other than angst teenagers. Etc. For they kind of investment these guys make on graphics and stuff, they could easily have a dream team of writters instead of just cutting corners.

Same goes for gameplay, please user-test your prototypes in a user blind environment. This is 2018 not 1995.

I'm not sure what it is, but I don't enjoy political drivers in JRPG's, but ever since 12 that seems to be the FF mantra (excluding the MMO). I know they existed in previous titles too, but they were always separate from the main threat and not a direct driver of the story. What ever happened to FF being the second word in the title - Fantasy? Sure, summons and magic and chocobos, but that's all that's left of the shell of Fantasy to them it seems. I hope they don't ruin the FF7 remake with massive story/plot changes. I know people like to shit on it's story too but I really enjoyed it and all the lore that they put in it.

I really enjoyed the FFXV movie they made, and I have this title for PC but haven't started it quite yet - Too many Switch games to catch up on haha.

If you're going to 'save the world's it's only but natural that politics are involved one way or another. Other FF had politics, although most pointing to a middle age feudal system. My problem is that is being terribly made, seems written by a 14 y.o or something. It's been a while since I finished a FF, but until X at least the theme was a huge plot twist near the end of all games, and that usually had to do with, in the begining, there being of lack of perspective and knowledge of the characters about the situation of their world, and this makes absolute sense in a war environment, where information is controlled by high officials and intelligence bodies. It'd fit perfectly, if well done. It has nothing to do with the usage of fantasy elements or not, it's simply poorly driven.

Take the example of A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones, for instance, where it is a pure fantasy world, but where politics are highly fetailed, characters are complex and believable and a great deal of quality is added to the plot for it.

If your talking Kingsglaive, I honestly tried but I really have up after a bit.

The MMO has some political stuff too, don't worry. It's not the only thing it's about though.

Did this update finally fix the problem of no sound on a 5.1 setup? Because that was a problem that persisted on both the demo and the benchmark, and one of the reasons i held off from buying it initially.

Do you have a 4K monitor? The stress tests alone definitely show a difference, and look different as well.
It makes a difference in performance which is defo not worth it especially that the 1080 ti can't handle it at 4k highest settings with fps above 40

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Not worth <100 GB IMO.

Edit: Besides, I can't even run the game full speed on my setup.
What is your system specs?

You're probably gonna laugh, but -

CPU Core i7 4770 Haswell 3.4 GHz
GPU eVGA GeForce 970 GTX
RAM 16 GB DDR3 SDRAM
OS Windows 10 64-bit Home

That, and I get weird twitching in the cape/clothes physics

Excuse me? What's there to laugh about? Your system is high mid-end. I've got a 11 year old cpu i got last year for about 15 bucks (e5450), 4gb ram and a 1050 but i can run it comfortably at 1080p low at 40fps since i've got an ssd. Your system can definitely hit 60fps at mid settings.

I only tried the demo in all honesty, and had a lot of issues with the clothes/capes twitching/flickering for some reason, must have been a bug. If I get the demo again, I'll record it. That said, 70 to 120 GB for a game is too much space IMO.

Not it is very well optimized, what?

IDK

Honestly it's worth it. Download the cracked version or that mod i forgot the name of for way better performance. This is one of the biggest and most beautiful games of all time man.

I don't like using cracked games, risk of viruses/malware, etc. But the 100 GB download turns me off.
