Im just wondering if someone can clear a few things up for me and maybe other people who are new to this and curious about these things.

HBL, - i dont really understand what this does - it seems useless on the 3ds, Everything on here when i look is some weird names and for example the GBA emulator when i open it always freezes and the screen goes very weird and i must restart - I wanted this emulator to work so i got a .cia files and installed the same GBA emulator with FBI and it also puts the icon on the home 3ds menu and now it works perfect.

What does HBL do for me and is everything i install like a .cia file considered homebrew ? Why is there a GBA emulator on the homebrew launcher that does not work but the one i installed with FBI does work and goes on the 3DS menu. What is the difference between these things ?

What are the good things that HBL does and what are the most common things people use ?

If you download games on freeShop and for some reason freeShop stops working or these key things stop working, Will the games you already downloaded and installed also stop working ? If this can happen, What is the chances of this hapenning ? Basically i want to know once you download a game and its installed will it always work ?

If i am just happy to play a few games and do a few things on the 11.4.0-36 with this LUMA3DS, Is anything going to stop me from doing this, Can Nintendo do anything or stop any of the above things from working once you have it all installed and setup, Am i able to stay on the 11.4.0-36 and not need to update in the future because i am happy enough to play some games ?

Thank you for any help and info, it is very much appreciated :)

You didn't need to bold as much as you did, it's not necessary.

Downloaded freeShop games will still work if freeShop stops working. Also, it's freeShop, not FreeSHOP.

You cannot install CIA to home menu on 11.4

EDIT: Wait you have LumaCFW?
OP has CFW as they are able to install CIAs.

For noob/generalization sake sig patchers have always been considered CFW regardless of being "true". No need to split hairs, it's not that serious.
Yeah, it's a bit like correcting people when they call a tomato a vegetable - sure it isn't technically a vegetable, but it is used as one. It would be impractical to say, I like all fruit for snacks except tomatoes, or, I'm going to get some veggies plus some tomatoes from the shop for salad.

For explanation sake though, it is useful to point out that luma3ds is a sig. patcher; meaning that the underlying firmware is still 100% stock [unless you deliberately alter system titles] - rather than being an actual fw itself.

Hbl will work if you tick the bottom box in luma settings -- but as you have luma3ds cias are the way to go. Hbl is really for those without luma/'cfw' and operates at a higher [userland] layer than a9lh/luma does

I don't think it is useful to differentiate given that we don't actually have any real CFWs. Just let people call it what they want. The meaning is pretty established and I doubt anyone is going to get confused thinking they are talking about a CFW in the literal sense.

The phrase 'how do you uninstall CFW' comes to mind or 'switching from rxtools to luma3ds' or 'something to do with GateWay'

Making people know the 'cfw' is that 1MB [or whatever it is] arm9loaderhax.bin file might mean we get more cerebral inquires than that.

Anyway with 'sighax' soon we might have to differentiate

Nope Nintendo can't do anything! Or, are unwilling to. It's been well over a year and their attempts have been lacklustre at best. If they were able to stop it they'd have done so by now.

um, as far as i know, the homebrew launcher is still broken on old3ds. they are trying to stop it

Edit: Op, nintendo can't really do anything once you have "CFW" but they can block the ways to get it. your safe once you have "cfw"
