But again, MP4 is highly compressed format and having mkv files would just use more file size on the storage than you realize that you would have videos the same size as full retail games.

Well i know h.264 is better. But I guess we have too see "If it can be done"
Why is it obnoxious to convert MKV to MP4? Is there a problem with subtitles?

MKV and MP4 are the containers not the Video format used. The vita actually supports H264 in MP4 but not in an MKV container. MP4 doesn't support softsubs though.

I am aware of the fact mp4 doesn't contain the same class of subtitles situation that mkv does. But just how bad is the sutitle situation for mp4 video? MKV have options to change subtitles cause they are stored in seperapte files along with the video and audio of the thing inside the mkv, it can be changed to support multilanguage of audio, and text, but if you know you only want to see it a specific way when you go to watch it, how much different is it to just hardcode subs into the video?

Can the system run something so powerful asl VLC Mplayer or FFMPEG? It already has a video player, and used compressed mp4 format which isn't the worst thing.

It can play games and the like, it can manage playing videos. A FFMPEG front-end would be great with better playback than the default video player. From my experience the default plays up to 720p vids at up to 30fps fine. Any higher resolution or frame-rate and you start seen the problems.

Edit:
There could also be support for subtitles and maybe even MKV files. Converting videos with subtitles is a hassle. Especially if it's styled subtitles.

I thought the default resolution of the ps vita was somewhere between 720P and 480P:unsure:

It's rather time consuming, especially on a weaker PC. You have to re-encode the entire video to burn in the subs, and you lose video quality in the process.
Oh okay, i can understand that. To be honest when i mentioned how i used to encode mp4 files for my psp year ago, i did have trouble with it at first trying to find a Decent Conversion from MKV to PSP without loss of quality and compressed storage. Although i adapted to it until i found a decent working encoder but i just decided that this android app called Mplayer was a very well useful thing and just got a tablet for it instead. :P

Instead of installing bunch of codecs on my pc like CCCP (Combined community codec package) For anime, i can just easily use mplayer. So i be in favor of something like that for the vita. :)

The only problem i have is the amount of space it will consume on the memory card storing mkv files, since you would want to use it for more important things like games you download from Playstation store or save data, It would really be a problem unless people don't buy it to play games but for videos, music and pictures i guess would be handy to keep more than one memory card for sole purpose like that. :P

But i guess creating a easily accessable file structure would be necessary since full encrypted systems limits what can be put on there by traditional methods without access to special programs. Maybe it be better to just create some simplefied app that mirrors to websites for free to view anime videos like some android apps have for those things. :D

The screen resolution is 960*544 but it can play videos with resolutions up to 720p fine. The Vita TV default output is 720p and I think they said it can do 1080i.
Yeah pstv supports upt to 1080I from 480P And I never heard of 960X540 for anything, but there a first for everything i guess. I just thought the vita was a HD Screen.

Only Vita apps and games can use the 1080i resolution. PSP and PS1 games are stuck at 720p or lower, and, yes, you have to lower the resolution before you can play them.

Yes, this is facts. Like anyone cares to see a 1080P or even 4K PSX game :P

Unless is in a emulator like EPSXE OR PPSSPP then is worth it since it actually looks improved than just awkward. :ninja:
