hopefully this has the play style of champions of norrath. i hate these new arpgs that force you to have AI controlled partners and don't have much depth in the way of character upgrades

MW3 with Square Enix graphics, that might not be so bad

Hmm... yup. They will look much better I guess.

I know there's a lot of 'hate' for CoD titles as they are somehow a waste of $$ with repeated weapons and other stuff like maps and missions but I have no idea why, I sorta like them. In addition, there are very little shooter games (actual shooters like FPS, not those like Starfox or Kid Icarus) being announced; apart from RE and The Conduit. Hence, I hope a little CoD can spice up the shooter part of the Nintendo 3DS.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm also looking forward to Kid Icarus and Starfox.

Square Enix's graphics vary based on the artist and the art style designated to that specific game, so it varies.

Square Enix announces Heroes of Ruin™ for Nintendo 3DS
A brand new adventure featuring a line-up of unlikely heroes and deep social functionality

London (31 May, 2011) – Square Enix London Studios, part of Square Enix Europe, today announces HEROES OF RUIN, a brand new adventure featuring four unlikely heroes brought together to form a fearsome alliance. Custom-built for Nintendo 3DS™, with support for online play and a wealth of social gaming features, players will find a new experience awaits them every day.

“With HEROES OF RUIN we wanted to take the game experience beyond the confines of the console’s two screens,” said Lee Singleton, General Manager, Square Enix London Studios. “Nintendo 3DS’ online and social features allow us to do so much more than multiplayer, using both StreetPass™ and SpotPass™ to give players innovative ways of enhancing their experience.”

HEROES OF RUIN uses StreetPass to create an inventive in-game ‘Traders’ Network’ where players can buy and sell rare and powerful items picked up in battle. With an ever-changing inventory updated from each player passed in public, character strengths and abilities can be greatly enhanced through accessing items from other players’ games. Outside of the game, HEROES OF RUIN makes use of SpotPass to reward players with rare one-off items or unique challenges through local wi-fi hotspots. The official HEROES OF RUIN community website will reward players further with daily challenges and quests available to complete in-game. With social media functionality, the site will also give players a platform to meet other gamers, swap ideas and items and team-up in-game.

HEROES OF RUIN challenges players to carve their own adventure, joining forces with other heroes through seamless drop-in/drop-out co-op multiplayer or venturing forth alone. Players will enter an ever-changing world where danger waits around every corner. Heroes can explore and fight through wild, varied and dynamic environments, discovering new layouts and routes each time they play. Packed with strange and deadly creatures, these dangerous lands will stretch players’ combat and tactical skills as they enhance their character, collecting loot, weapons and armour to empower them on their quest.

HEROES OF RUIN will be playable at E3 on the Square Enix stand (South Hall, Booth 1647) and will be available in early 2012 for Nintendo 3DS. The game is not yet rated. For more information and updates, join the HEROES OF RUIN community at www.HeroesOfRuin.com.

Kind of looks like Torchlight...

Nice, this really looks like the next best thing to a MMO on 3DS. The screenshots don't convince me yet. But let's see how this develops.

It's a good thing that Square Enix is not using kiddie characters this time. (Although the character art on the OP is not that great either, all having the same facial expression and all...oh well - I won't complain)

The style reminds me a lot of Warcraft.

It doesn't look that good, but it's coming early 2012 so, they have time to polish it up.

Streetpass is the one you get by going near people, Spotpass the one you get from being connected to the Internet.
Just because it features Streetpass doesn't mean you're not gonna be able to play it OR that it's some kind of requirement, just a nice addition for those who Streetpass often. :/
EDIT: Also, SE doesn't use "kiddie" characters in most of their games.

I claim the armoured beast on our top right!

I can see this being another expected 3DS game, though I worry about this game being a flop.

varied and dynamic environments? sounds like it's got a random dungeon generator. if so, then that's sweet. as long as they include tons of random equipments with multiple levels of rarity and enchantments. and make equipments upgradeable too.

More details about the game.
- "We’ve got over 20,000 weapons per class, we’ve got a tremendous amount of content."
- don’t have to go through menus to equip items
- pick up loot and equip it by pressing up on the D-pad
- weapons are class specific
- "20,000… weapons per class. We have a really cool randomization system. As loot is dropped, based on a lot of different factors, it’ll actually configure them and put them all together. It’s similar to sort of what Borderlands did, you’ll see some similar things, but a lot of cool really different things."
- automatically creates a StreetPass shop
- access in the middle of the Nexus
- when you pass another person, your loot populates another player’s trader’s network[/p]

The 20k weapons thing was unexpected.

Also, lol, I just now saw the update with the details I posted.
