Nintendo DS games statically recompiled and re-optimized for 3DS.
16:9 Widescreen support
Repositioned UI to account for things
3D Slider in games on the top screen.

Love my nds-bootstrap extras, but ideally this could be done with recomps and really maximize the value of a 3DS.

I think what maximizes the value the most is playing games I could not play any other way before on my 3DS like Smash Melee or Persona 3 Portable. Not games I already can play on it for more than a decade at this point.
See, to me those are uninteresting because the form factor doesn't benefit from them at all, and the controls are worse than either a Gamecube controller or any other PS or Xbox grip, just on a laptop or computer. Like, what's the point?

It's really cool seeing those "omg a 3DS can do this?" but then you actually have to play the game, and wonder "why the fuck am I not just turning on my Switch" or whatever.

A lot of DS games look nice in higher res, like playing PS1 games on Duckstation. 3DS has the form factor to play those, and you could do things like upscale the UI properly or maybe overscale and downsample it to look better than the basic bilinear filter they use officially. The pixel filtering is the biggest issue when playing DS games on 3DS, and 16:10 modes are anamorphic. Recomps could definitely alleviate this.

Why is this the first I'm seeing of Melee for 3DS?? It is so hard to keep up with all of these projects. What a wonderful time for homebrew and game preservation

Funny, because you were just complaining about recomps and yet you decided to make this thread. 🤔

My main problem is recomps for PC which use powerful hardware to play them.

Sure, it's really impressive I can now play this, that and the other on my Switch natively
I don't think you really know what your main problem with recomps is. Some other people may say this two posts are contradictory and hypocritical.

why is your post in the Switch forum then? Hmmmmm???
The result of people recompiling shit left and right is that corporations are banding together and going to their government with lobbying and lawsuits, because this isn't sustainable for them.
Your problem is, you're a bootlicker and you're confused about which boot to lick. Should I kiss the ass of the powerful corporations? or the people making the specific recomps that I want? how about...neither?

Calm down, bro; save that toxic attitude for X... This guy is simply writing down his ideas without having the knowledge; ignorance isn't a crime, there's no need to be rude.

Why indeed..? Is it really such a transformative experience to play a slightly-wonky version of a game on a tiny screen when it's the same game you've been able to run perfectly well by various other means for the last twenty years?

I also like the idea of DS games being recompiled for 3DS with better performance.
Just use TWiLight Menu with TWL clock speed enabled.

it's an interesting idea especially since a recomp or decomp (even better) can take advantage of the hardware much better than emulation or compatibility layers every could.

Even the best DS emulators are still struggling with upscaling 3D graphics with custom texture support and making it look good.

But a decomp would allow you to rewrite the entire rendering engine and modernize it as much as you want.

Most people here (especially the loudest ones) have little to no technical understanding (even though they think they do) and they can't even wrap their heads around the benefits. All they do is hopelessly holding on to outdated popular opinion in silly belief that they might say something remotely clever. Don't mind those people.

I had people asking me what's the point of me decompiling the SNES version of Final Fantasy VI.
"We have all the newer versions with more content and better translations and stuff, why bother with the SNES version???".

Well for me it's a passion project and I see a way forward for making it the definitive version by for example building robust modding support and building tools around extracting and converting assets and dungeons and content from the other versions and packing those as mods.
