Odd - I have tested these on the European version of Ridge Racer 3D on a 3DS, 2DS, and New 3DS. Could you save the crash dumps and share them with me?
Ok I reinstalled RR and it doesn't crash now.

The 400x480 ips file works brilliantly in 2D, on a new 3ds (a real improvement)

The other file doesn't seem to do anything. Neither improves the 3D weirdly: not that I can tell anyway

I've got 2 new 3ds's next to each other so can compare directly....

Neither patch affects 3D mode.
I was disappointed by the 800x240 patch myself. A couple details are improved, like car wheels or the bridge in Midtown Parkway. Overall this game's assets and camera benefit more from extra vertical resolution, not horizontal.
I made the 400x480 patch because of this, and also prefer the results.

Does it matter if it's a usa release of ridge racer 3D for these patches?
The patch won't be applied because the title ID is different. I don't know if renaming it is sufficient or if there is additional port work required - I don't own the US version of this game.

This is a patch for Ocarina of Time 3D. It works with the European version of the game.

The patch has two major additions.
  • Increase the render and presentation resolution.
    • On the Old 2DS, rendering is performed at 800x480 and supersampled to 400x240.
    • On other consoles in 2D, rendering is performed at 800x480 and supersampled to 800x240.
    • On other consoles in 3D, rendering is performed at 400x480 per eye and supersampled to 400x240 per eye.
  • Map several touch screen actions to buttons.
    • Up - First person/Navi
    • Left - Item I
    • Right - Item II
    • Down - Ocarina
    • Select - Open items menu
Here is a comparison of scenes from the game captured using Luma's screenshot function.

I have done some basic playtesting, but haven't yet beaten the game end to end. Therefore this patch can be considered an alpha. Feedback is highly welcome. This patch was developed with AI assistance.

Copy the contents of the attached .zip to your 3DS SD card and ensure Luma has game patching enabled.

Enjoy!

Additional patches for other games have also been developed and can be found in this thread.
Ridge Racer 3D
Metroid: Samus Returns
I started playing this game with your mod on a New 3DS XL and reached the location with the fish that swallowed Link. Unfortunately, I have to remove this mod because the FPS drops significantly in many areas, making gameplay unpleasant. The most noticeable issues occur in: 1. The grasslands with many trees, flying spinning monsters, and night skeletons. 2. The boss, the electric jellyfish inside the fish. And other locations with a lot of activity happening simultaneously.
