[Patch Details: Functional Improvements]
1. Frame Rate Improvement
- Removes the 20 fps lock. The game runs at a variable frame rate:
up to 60 fps in light scenes, and only as low as it has to in heavy ones.
(Game speed stays the same at any frame rate / applies to gameplay and cutscenes)
- It is smoothest with the 3D depth slider all the way down.
- Hold SELECT for 2 seconds to show the current frame rate in the lower left
corner of the bottom screen. Hold it for 2 seconds again to hide it.
(The Survival Viewer opening when you press SELECT is normal)
- Press L + R + START + SELECT together to return to the first logo
screen. (Unsaved progress is lost / does not work in the menu or
during radio calls)

2. Soft Reset Function Added
This feature was added because the original game lacked options to reload data or return to the title screen during gameplay.
Pressing L + R + Start + Select resets the game.
Due to potential input conflicts, this function is disabled in certain situations, such as the Survival Viewer (pause) screen or wireless communication screens.

3. Trigger/Bumper Button Swap
This feature was implemented to address awkward controls on the New 3DS, where aiming with ZL and attacking with ZR felt uncomfortable.
The functions of L/ZL and R/ZR have been swapped to provide a more comfortable control scheme.
A version of the patch without this feature is also included for those playing on an original 3DS with a Circle Pad Pro attached or using the Citra emulator.

It supports the two ROM versions below.
Japanese version
Product code : CTR-P-AMGJ(JP Verdion)
Title ID : 000400000007A000

US(English) version
Product code : CTR-P-AMGE (US version)
Title ID : 0004000000081E00

Patch Notes
===========

20261009 v1.1
Fixed a crash that occurred when playing the opening video (Snake Eater).

20261012 v1.2
Implemented variable frame rate support.

The previous patch was limited to running at either 30 FPS or 60 FPS; consequently, if the system had spare performance at 30 FPS but couldn't handle the load required for 60 FPS, it would default to 30 FPS.
With this patch, the game renders at the highest possible frame rate in situations where 60 FPS isn't achievable but performance exceeds 30 FPS (e.g., 55 FPS or 47 FPS).
This ensures a much smoother and more enjoyable gameplay experience compared to both the original version and the previous patch.

Added frame rate display feature.
Added a feature to show or hide the frame rate at the bottom-left of the lower screen by holding the Select button for 2 seconds.

Most 3DS games render images for both eyes even when the 3D slider is turned off. Rendering for only one eye when the 3D slider is off can result in a significant performance boost.
That seems like something they should have been able to optimise back in the day in general. Big oof.

Nice one.

I understand this is one of the games that benefits from New 3DS L2 clock speeds being manually enabled in Luma.

Perhaps it would be useful to include functionality in your patch to automatically recognize the New 3DS?

I compared the performance of a New 3DS and an Old 3DS side-by-side with L2 cache and high-clock mode enabled, but the performance boost was not significant.
This patch is configured to automatically enable L2 cache and high-clock mode.
