The first release of Daytona-NX-Modern: a native Nintendo Switch port of Daytona USA (Sega Model 2 arcade recompilation).

Tested on hardware: locked 57.52 FPS (authentic Sega Model 2 arcade refresh rate) with clear, stutter-free stereo audio, full controls, and save state persistence.

Features & Switch Optimizations

  • Static AOT Recompilation: Translates Sega Model 2 i960 RISC CPU, Fujitsu MB86234 TGP DSP, and 68000 sound CPU programs directly to native ARM64 instructions.
  • Multithreaded Software Rasterizer: Work-stealing raster queue partitioned into 8 slices parallelized across Core 0 and dedicated user Core 2, cutting rasterization time by ~50% and allowing locked 57.52 FPS at stock 1020 MHz clock.
  • Real-Time Native Audio: Audio callback pinned to Core 1 with elevated real-time priority (0x2B) and 1024-sample buffers (21.3 ms), preventing audio starvation and stutter.
  • Hardware-Accurate 57.524 Hz Frame Pacing: Bypasses 60 Hz VSync quantization judder; uses high-precision hybrid svcSleepThread waiting to reduce power consumption and heat.
  • Integrated In-Game Menu (+ and - chord):
    • Audio Engine switch (Native vs Reference 68000)
    • Frame Pacing toggle (57.52 Hz Native vs 60 Hz VSync)
    • Real-time performance telemetry overlay
    • One-touch Single-Player EEPROM reset & Test switch toggle
  • Custom Homebrew Icon & Metadata: Embedded 256×256 icon and NACP control block authored by Thorhax.

Installation

No ROMs or copyrighted game files are included. You must supply your own copy of the arcade ROM set.

    ├── daytona.nro
    └── daytona.zip

  2. Place your MAME daytona.zip (Revision A) inside sdmc:/switch/daytona/.
  3. Launch from the Homebrew Menu (via Title Override recommended for full memory access).

Works great, tested; however, could you add a setting for the analog stick? At the moment, it is too sensitive and almost impossible to turn without an extreme change in direction.

For instance, this guy in the web version was able to provide some settings for the Joystick sensitivity

I can look into that

Like others said when you turn hard left/right then return the stick to neutral the "wheel" is snapping back to the center which then will pull you the opposite direction.

Maybe add a dead zone to the sticks or change the centering settings or something? I dunno.

Can we modify the controls at all? Dad up/down for 1st/4th gear is great for drifting I want to put them on Y/A instead so you don't have to crab claw the controller to drift. Swap the camera controls onto dpad instead.

These M2 ports are great though 😎
